Heart rate monitor recommendations

I just got an oldie Jetblack whisper drive trainer that I want to put to a good use over the winter season. To that end I would like to find a decent heart rate monitor. In the past (quite a while ago) I have been disappointed with how quirky and slow those could be, sucking something fierce at keeping anywhere near real time tracking. I'm hoping that there is something better out there now that doesn't cost an arm and a leg.

Could somebody recommend a reasonably priced good heart rate monitor?

I just bought a Polar OH1 optical arm monitor and think it is much better than the chest straps. It works as soon as you have it on and it is accurate and fast to respond. I have two chest straps that take a good 10-15 minutes to get going, basically once you start sweating a bit to make contact.

I have the Wahoo Tickr HRM. It comes with a chest and arm straps. It’s rechargeable, so no batteries to replace. I use with armband strap, no dropouts and appears to be accurate. It is both ANT+ and Bluetooth compatible.

I bought a Polar H9, which is an older model but got a good deal on Amazon because of that. I didn't need it for anything too serious and only wanted it on more intense Zwift sessions to watch my HR doesn't get too high. I start to get a bit concerned when it goes over 170, so want to make sure I don't extend this for too long.
First use it synced with Zwift no problems and has been fine ever since. Seems you can't synch it once you start an event unless you go back out to the menu and initiate the synching process again, but it might just be me.

I picked up a Garmin HRM-Dual for about $30 on ebay, looks like you can get one for closer to $40 now. If I wear it for more than a few hours of running in a week I get some chafing where the strap connects, but other than that fairly minor quibble it appears to be both bulletproof and idiot-proof.

The Coospo chest strap one is also dual standard and I find it more robust than the more expensive Garmin. A little slower / less frequent to update perhaps but HR doesn’t change that fast anyway.

Also Wahoo TickR (I think that's the spelling.) Mine is not rechargeable like buzzkill's , but the batteries last for many months and easy to replace. No problems, quick synch with both my Wahoo and with Zwift through Apple TV.

I've been using a Tickr Fit by Wahoo for a few years. Works perfectly. It's an arm-band model.

I'm currently using the Polar 9. I've three different brand hrm's...Polar, Wahoo? and a Garmin. The most reliable is the Polar. I chose the 9 because my Garmin Edge gps, Kickr and iPhone/Strava store all the info I need.
I do notice the Polar does like to use up batteries...maybe one or two per year but considering I use it 6 out of 7 days for around 2 hours per day I'm not complaining.
