Road Cycling “It is by riding a bicycle that you learn the contours of a country best, since you have to sweat up the hills and coast down them. Thus you remember them as they actually are, while in a motor car only a high hill impresses you, and you have no such accurate remembrance of country you have driven through as you gain by riding a bicycle.” -- Ernest Hemingway

Carbon Bottle Cage

I am looking for a pair of new bottle cage.
Has to be lightweight and have a good grip.

Basically decided on one of the following three:
Elite d Moro Carbon Cage
Elite Patao Carbon Cage

Anyone cares to tell me which of the above have good grip on bottles and easy sliding in/out?

Don't want to accuse of causing a crash due to a lousy cage

Are you set on carbon? You can get great alloy cages for $10 that will never let go.

I really can't see any way for a bad bottle cage to cause you to crash. If you can't pull the bottle out, just give up, pull over, and get a drink with the bike stopped. If the bottle is too loose instead of too snug, it'll drop your bottle, but that won't crash you. Believe me. I spent the weekend climbing the worst hills on offer in hill town, and dropped bottles going up and down 20 % grades. You just go back for them, if you're climbing, or wait for them to roll down to you.

Or maybe you meant it's ok to crash as long as it's not because of the bottle cages?

Loose bottles crash other people. Cage those bottles.

Arundel is the best.

That's what I first thought.

Anyway, to answer the question, Specialized and Bontrager both sell plastic cages that are almost as light as carbon for a fraction of the price.

Since were on the topic of cages anyone know of a cage that'll fit the camelbak podium chill bottles. I have some tacx juno cages right now that i had to cut a slit through so they expand to fit my bottles but i just don't like the way they look. I got them cheap on ebay but now i want something a little better looking. Can be plastic or carbon, doesn't matter.

I'm partial to Tacx Tao carbon cages. They work well / proven design. I agree that the plastic version is about the same weight and a fraction of the cost but hard to beat the bling factor of a nice carbon cage.

I use the Specialized Rib Cages for my Podium bottles. Very firm hold.

"Basically decided on one of the following three:

Me: "How many fingers am I holding up, Yongkun?"

Yongkun: "Two fingers."

Me: "How many now?"

Yongkun: "Two."

Me: "As I thought – you have double vision.

Translation from sillysill's comment, above: "For a second, frame-mounted water bottle cage, the most common position is towards the front of the seat tube. A used bottle for a cage will suffice. A plastic, aluminum, stainless steel, titanium or carbon cage will all suffice, too, Yongkun."

Too firm IMO. I thought they looked cool, but I hated them. Sold them with my old bike and went back to Arundel.

Mount them behind your saddle. You know the nickname for those, right?

Anything that's open-ended will work, plus maybe the Elite cages. I've used both plain alloy and blingy carbon Arundel cages for my Podium Chill bottles, but they won't fit into a pair of never-used Tacx Juno cages (which I'd rather sell than cut open to fit). Those bottles are probably the thickest you'll find.
