That is exactly why I do not and will not use carbon handlebars - I can deal with a broken frame as it should not be catastrophic but if those bars let go you're going to eat the stem and wreck hard.

But, but.... think of all the weight you saved before you ate pavement.
The one posted about the frame which broke while braking is rather scary. I can understand breaks from crashes, but a having a frame crack in half from braking stress on the frame is something entirely different. Holy cow.

the exposed carbon broken parts, classic "JRA" pages of photos of some of the pages (just riding along) accidents.Carbon traffic accidents and bicycle parts and stories of others aboard the best and lightest on the market some of the items may be but by and large disposable items.

Very close: I was pushing these carbon bashing threads on the blagotubes and in the streets for about 18 months, scaring the bejesus outta everyone until nobody would buy a carbon bike any more. Then I bought the one I had my eye on for 50 % off retail.

CF is worth eating some asphalt for. Besides, with all the tarmac I've face planted over the years, none of it was due to detonating CF. Twice thanks to exploding aluminum (crank arm, hub spacer).

I can see why some people try to avoid carbon bars/stems. Those areas are really vulnerable and using alu bits (especially stems) is really not a weight/performance difference. However, if you have the $ I see little reason why one wouldn't want a carbon frame.
