Nishiki Custom Sport
Hi Guys, I just picked up this Nishiki Custom Sport and was thinking about flipping it so i can get decent tires for my Miyata. High tensile Toshiba tubing, Sugino forged 165 cranks, Dia-Compe brakes and levers, Araya 26" steel rims on Shimano via EI hubs. The derailers are older Shimano 600 with what i would call scroll work on them. What would be a decent price to ask for it ? Thanks, Jay

I have the girl's model of that, fashionably called a mixte. They're nice bikes. It's a smallish frame, a 21" I reckon, you ought to measure or look for a size . It's an early 80s. It's HI-Tens. steel, not a crappy type, I'll emphasize.. better than many steel models back then which is important. Still not CHRMLY. though.. The finish and parts on the old Nishikis were befitting a higher level bike, yours is not entry level but not upper-mid either. Actually if I didn't have that model , the parts wouldn't make sense, they're better than just OK, as I'd said, Nishiki was funny like that. I paid fifty bucks for mine + frt. which I got ripped on mainly because it's a girls bike. I've seen ones just like yours fetch one fifty and weren't so clean. I've no doubt you'll get one hundred. Better check the tire size, I bet it's 27" NOT 26". If somebody's snobbish, they may be "too wise" to the CHRMLY. aspect, if they like it, they're right in seeing it as a soild, sharp bike.

$175 for hi-ten frame, stem shifters, impossible BCD chainrings, nutted axles? Kudos to you

My gut says Bill's $100 estimate is correct. But the insane prices I've seen on CL lately says, try for the $175 if your area is as crazy as the Raleigh, NC area. But because we are deep into September, be prepared to lower your price.

I'm thinking $125 +/-
Tomorrow I'm going to pick up a real nice mid 80's Schwinn Caliente with nutted hubs, steel rims etc for $50 to flip. It'll be a good test bike.

This is why $175 looks like a bargain. I'd say the Nishiki is a much better bike. The 600 Arabesque with long cage is a great running setup.

Yup, If I had that Nishiki next to a Caliente, its no contest, the Nishiki has much nicer components, alloy cranks and a chromed fork.

Prices on bike of this level seem really market and seasonal right now. In a major market when the weather gets nicer in a month or two I could see $175. Where I'm at in rural Colorado it would be a no sale at any price.

Yes, these same bikes are flooding the free columns. The people buying them are gone along with affordable rents and the jobs they relied on.
