Had a Shogun 600 w/ Tange 900 tubes, for a short while and it was a sweet rider. That C list bike looks like a good price from where I'm sitting ( for a keeper) , go snag it ! Keep in mind that it may need to be serviced.

That is a great looking bike and if it was my size I would grab it in a second at that price.
However.... you do need to aware of two very important things.
1. Those shifters use a propritary mounting boss so you can't replace them with an index lever or easily install housing stops to go with STI or barend type shifters.
2. The cranks and pedals go togather and replacing the pedals with a clipless type (or any other pedal) requires a special rare adaptor so you need to use these pedals and shifters.
It should be a great riding bike though.
It is a huge bike though are you like 6' 3"?

Still learning
If you gave the panniers, 2 racks, and vintage water bottle fair credit, that bike is priced around $220. Quality components, nice frame, very clean, it's a STEAL! Just either get a front fender or ditch the rear, and get some real bar tape instead of the blue pipe foam.

I picked up this bike this afternoon and it rides great. I'm 6'4" and it fits perfectly. I'm definitely going to swap out the foam for some bar tape. Looking forward to touring on it. Thanks for all of your input!

I don't know what you spent, but I do know that you got a great bike. I just paid $340 for a Lotus Eclair with the same component group.

Not sure what the racks are, I'll take some closeup photos during the day tomorrow. I ended up paying $275 for it and I couldn't be happier. I took it out for a couple hours today and it's amazing how much better the ride is compared to the beater that I had before.

...interestingly, I think I just bought this bike, which was for sale on the Sac CL again this week. I'll take and post some photos for posterity soon, when I have some time.
It's really quite remarkable in terms of condition, with what appear to be the original Shogun branded tyres still on it, along with the proprietary shifters and the Dynadrive pedals.

OK, 3a, you're forgiven.
When I saw the date of the OP and the last post B4 yours was also 2012, I wondered what could possibly have triggered a 2016 reply to a 3 1/2 year old zombie thread.
The OP paid $275 in 2012; how much did you pay?

I probably wouldn't have even gone to see it had I not spotted this thread, because the ad had only a very difficult photo with few details. But when I saw the blue bar foam today and the missing front fender, I knew it had to be the same bike, probably being sold on by the OP here. I would like to thank him, it looks like a swell bike, and he appears to have gotten some use from it, and then passed it along into the stream of traffic. .
I'll post the photos and serial number over in the Shogun database thread in C+V. It's a very pretty dark blue, and well preserved, 1982 Shogun model 2001 touring bike, like this ad.

I have one of these. I'm just getting around to refurbishing it to get it back on the road. I am the original owner, and I have the factory racks front and rear. I bent the rear wheel a couple of years ago and I think I pitched it. To bad since it would be nice to have now. The saddle was awful, but weren't they all in 1982. I think I paid about $400. For it new from a dealer in Norwak CT.

Good luck finding a Shogun locally or on CL. Your best bet is ebay. Should be some good examples on there.

A genuine good luck. The odds of a Shogun in that color and year in your size is extremely small. Check eBay often and something g like search results to pull more Craiglist results than just what's local.

...I think maybe both of you guys are too recent to be able to PM each other, but it does make sense for the guy looking for one to list the size he wants. At least, I would do that.
I don't know if I ever took any photos of mine after the resurrection, but it's a pretty solid (and thus heavy) touring bike package. I got the adapters for the cranks to use regular pedals from some guy in Eastern Europe (or maybe Russia ? ) who is machining them and selling them on e-bay. If anyone is interested, they work well.
The original fenders were nice, but mine was missing the front, so I just replaced them with something else.
Otherwise, it appears to be a very durable touring bike in the finest of Japanese traditions. If they were making these and selling them in the US for 400 bucks new, that's quite an accomplishment.

In 1982, I attempted to ride cross country - roughly the TransAmerica Trail. Due to a family emergency it was canceled 3-weeks into the ride and 1200 miles.
My Shogun 2001 Touring Bike, deep sea blue, that took me that 1200-miles, was sold that same year, needing the money.
For the past year I've grown nostalgic for the bike and what it represented to me. And for the past year I've searched for a used one, of course, deep sea blue 1982 Shogun 2001 Touring bike, 56-58".
I was told by many online bicycle chat rooms, "Good luck". "Weren't many sold", "a hard one to find".
A few weeks ago someone in Oregon contacted me that he has this deep sea blue 1982 Shogun 2001 Touring bike, 58" for sale.
And it was still in the original box!
Never ridden, never put together, this bike has never left its original box in 36 years!
The original tires and tubes, they have never seen air. The original water bottle, has never seen water.
I now own it.
As I opened the box and removed the bicycle, still wrapped in its original padding and plastic, my wife Pam told me that it was an emotional time for me. I'll trust her judgment.
Although, I was feeling pretty damn happy.
I want to thank vicious cycle for the fabulous Deep Sea Blue Shogun 2001 Touring Bicycle. Someday I'll take it off my office wall and ride it, but not yet. I'm enjoying it's newness.
