Subject: Bert's Funeral Service and bike ride info
Thank you all reaching out to show your support following Bert’s passing. Please join us for his memorial service this Friday, December 13th. Even if you can’t attend, read on.
The service will be held indoors from 2-4pm this Friday at John Kytril Funeral Home/Yorkville Funeral Services. The address is 1297 1st Ave (70th st + 1st ave on the Upper East Side of Manhattan). Public transit directions below. The room holds 50-60 people and I hope to exceed that number. I’m sure each of you will have time to meet Bert’s girlfriend Michelle, his brothers Adi (pronounced “Audi”) and Phillip, and his niece Anna.
Bert’s girlfriend Michelle has asked me to speak a eulogy around 2:30, once a good amount of friends have gathered. If you would like to publicly share a particular memory, anecdote or photo of Bert, please include it in a reply to this email. I would love to include a few in my eulogy but beyond that I will include all responses in a public online collection. Bert’s life reached people around the world and I think this would be a great way for those who cannot attend this service to celebrate his life together.
What to wear? Bert was a t-shirt and jeans guy, told me once that he only ever wore a suit once – to take out one of his first business loans – and hadn’t done so since. I’d recommend dressing respectfully but casually.
I’m sure you all have many stories to share and I look forward to meeting you all to celebrate the life of our great friend Bert.
Bike Ride: On the following Saturday morning I’d love to get as many of you out on a bike ride as possible. Please push this portion of the invitation out to as many people who ride bikes in NYC as you know. If you need to borrow a bike, email me. We’ll try our best to get everyone on a shop bike but bring your own or borrow one from a friend if you can. I think we could get maybe 30 people on bikes… maybe.
Those who borrow a bike, meet at NYCeWheels (1603 York ave between 84th and 85th) at 10:00.
If you have your own bike, meet in the courtyard at Carl Shulz Park at 86th and East End Ave. at 11am.
Best regards, Peter Yuskauskas
Some details:
Closest subway stop? Take the 4, 5, or 6 Train to “68th St – Hunter College” and walk from there.
Contact funeral home to send flowers if you’d like: 212 744 3084
Feel free to forward this to anyone who you know is not included above.
Some have asked to know Bert’s favorite charity. To my knowledge it was Transportation Alternatives which promotes, among many great things, cycling in NYC.
Riding a bike? I don’t think we’ll have room enough for bikes, even folding ones, save it for the ride.

Oh dear... very unfortunate, and very sad. Although I did not know him well at all, I did talk/email with him with questions early on when I was looking into folding bikes. He was undoubtedly a great person. Many condolences to his friends and family.

LET'S ROLL
I've only been to NYCEWheels a handful of times to buy some parts.
I don't think I ever met Bert; but the guys that I met there were very
helpful and nice. Last Friday, I went to pickup a cable from BFold.
They're closer to me. As I was leaving; I mentioned that Bert had
passed away. Peter replied, "That's why David is not here, he went to
the memorial". I was thinking to myself; that Bert Cebular must have
been a real stand up guy that his competition would go to his funeral
to pay respect.
There was a snowstorm last Saturday; I don't know if
the memorial ride will be rescheduled.
