[SRAM GXP BB + Truvativ Firex crank] Replacing belt drive with chain?
Hello,
This bike comes with a SRAM crankset (GXP bottom bracket + Truvativ Firex crank), and a Gates CDC belt drive.
I'm currently replacing its worn out Alfine 11 gear hub with a Nexus 8. I was rarely using the top speeds anyway.
Turns out I also need to replace the cog since Gates makes two models (one for Alfine, one for Nexus).
The CDC range is on its way out, and Gates sells a 22T cog for €112/$133.
Before ordering, I was wondering how much it'd cost to replace the belt-transmission with a chain transmission: Can I keep the GXP bottom bracket, and just get a single speed crank and a new cog? Do they have to come from SRAM, or are there compatible brands?
Thank you.

Bottom brackets are very inexpensive for most cranks and bb shells. Why not get a new bb? It'll broaden your choice of chainsets. But you are going to have to worry about what will fit your shell and also pay attention to where your chain line will be for the chain wheel. There are a lot of things you need to be measuring. What's the spacing on the rear and what is the chainline of the rear cog on the hub in your frame.

Good to know.
I'll see if that GXP BB can be replaced with something more common, and what crankset will fit that bike.
Thank you.

Why do you want to replace the crankset? remove the belt chainring, and buy a normal chainring with the same BCD.
