$300 Cinelli Pista?
Very confused. I see an ad on facebook for a Cinelli. I ask the guy why it's so cheap and he just replies that he bought some as bulk. Bottom bracket is stamped, Columbus SSP sticker in right location. It looks like a Frankenstein of other parts along with the odd looking fork (vitus?) Risk it for 300? Why would it be fake?

Replacement fork is from Soma, made of Tange steel. I'm no expert, but the frame looks like the real deal. $300 doesn't seem too bad, although this is a bit of a mongrel.

Agreed with roadcrankr - ridiculously good deal if legit.
Would get the $300 cash ready and then ask for date/time to pick it up. If it's not legit, you'll know - they won't be local, will want some sort of e-payment, etc, etc.
If he is legit though...go buy all of his "bulk" at frameset prices

It all sounds too good to be true. He’s local, he’s got other bikes listed that he’s selling, and we made a time for 1 tomorrow. Maybe it’s just someone who doesn’t really know a Cinelli? Which may explain the build up?
I can only assume he’ll wake up tomorrow with a hundred messages and think, “Hmmm, maybe 300 is pretty low.”

Without looking up the Pista, that looks like the Supercorsa with exception, of course (corse?) the track fork ends. I’d say definitely Cinelli and undervalued so either doesn’t know value or it’s stolen.

Cinelli isn't exactly the grail marque it used to be. They moved downmarket during the 00s fixie craze and now produce some pretty cheap/garish bikes, although garish is part of the italian charm, and these bikes are still quite good for what they are.
The supercorsa pista there is a fancy frame, with some very nice parts on it, but personally I do not like modern faux-retro bikes with quill stems, especially track bikes, and not having the original fork is a big negative, although the (soma?) one on there is very nice. I wouldn't know what to do with it. Probably how it is now, a garish fancy frankenbike, makes the most sense, just with some less stupid bars. So then unless you want to just part it out and make money, or fall into a moneysink trying to make it 'right', do you want a beater fixie? That's what it is.

Soody I completely agree with that statement. I don’t think I’d throw a lot at it. Maybe find the original fork but then that’s where it all snowballs. We’ll see if it all works out.
I agree Cinelli has marketed itself towards the young and hip “urban” crowd and I’ll still be a fan nonetheless but it’s definitely ventured away from its “Italian Glory” years ago. Somec has taken that spot for me personally.

I missed a "complete" Cinelli Ex Machina a few years back..... the add was posted very early in the PM and decided to call in the morning......needles to say it was gone.

We saw a bunch of these come in as donations recently at the local (portland or) co-op.
a some research and the little stickers confirmed they were sold through performance bicycle, the nations largest cycle chain retailer for a short while. More like a house brand with Cinelli cast parts.

I think part of the problem is that Cinelli still sells the Supercorsa Pista even in a really similar green which costs 2700ish new. So if he got like 30 calls in a day that doesnt help.
Same happened to a friend who out of the blue said he wants a Mario Martini SOMEC but mountain bike (yeah he is that funny after having a few road SOMECs) thought what does a goole search cost me just for kicks...
Found him one in Austria for 450 eur. After 20 mins he wrote me the seller has a Martini road SOMEC as well he can have both for 650 but my friend must arrange pickup as he is not willing to ship. While we tried to figure out whom could we send there as it is evening, 10 mins later seller came back he got like 20 calls for immediate pickup and the price of each went up to 800+

He changed it before our intended meet up. I think my “high” of the Cinelli died down significantly though thanks to the forum replies!

After your first debacle, try not to get overzealous with another Cinelli search.
This one seems more suited to the $300 price tag! It's rife with issues.
