Scalextric Velodrome
A couple weeks ago we went to a party hosted by a fellow cyclist. He had this slot car track type velodrome set up for us to play with. It was fun to try out.
You had to be careful with the speed as the cyclists could easily fly off on the curves. Also, the outside rider had to ride further to complete a lap.
Still, it was fun to play with while enjoying a beer. Or two.

I think I’d go crazy watching these cyclists going around and around, beer would definitely make it easier. I do know that my wife’s cat would love it!

WAY BITD (early 60's), Scalextric was one of the first slot car brands that made it over to the US. I'm sure there are a bunch of other slot geeks here.

Certainly. Used to be, anyway. Spent many a Saturday in 1974 with my friends at the Sébring shop and commercial track in São Paulo. I believe I still have my slot car stuff from that time somewhere ...

When I was about five years old, my dad got into slot track racing with 1/25 scale cars. One of his friends had a commercial track where they had weekly races. I want to say it was 6 or 8 lanes wide. I got to go with him a few times when they weren't racing. They gave me a slower car so they didn't have to keep putting it back on the track when I didn't slow down for the corners.
Later on I had one of the plastic HO size tracks.

Like roller skating, I couldn't get enough slot car time as a kid. Not going to break my ankle with the slot cars like I did skating a couple months ago..
I used to ride my bike from home in Trevor, WI to The Hobby Barn in Antioch, IL to race HO slot cars in the early 70s. They had both multi lane HO and 1/32-1/25 tracks. I was HO. My Dad and little brother raced the bigger cars. Dad used to build his from a pile of brass tubes. Brother bought his cars.
My wife talked me into building an HO layout in the basement to do something with the grandkids when the weather is crummy.
So far, the youngest granddaughter is the only one to show any interest, though my youngest kids' FIL spends a bit too much time here on the track. If I had a beer fridge in the basement, he'd never leave.
