Worried about the market?
on Italian eBay, started yesterday at 100 euro.
today 1,580 - about six days to go

Let me see if I can improve the link
nope, appears to be item-
266590113223

Must be symmetrical
Whether this means the market is broken, who knows. But mostly it is an ebay artifact, so a result of the exchange, not an indication of the supply and demand itself.
Here is the bidding history:
my reading: t**a made a lowball bid in the hopes no one would find the listing. 6**n also hoped to luck out. (I have before, so it's a legit strategy.) y**2 made a more realistic bid, as did o**t. they then abandon since the listing becomes overvalued. Then the 2**2s came along. these are strange, since I thought the ebay pseudonyms were unique, but apparently not, based on the users' bidding histories. Whatever, the 2**2 with a higher bidding history might be legit. But this is less interesting than e**h and g**2. g**2 is certainly a shell bidder just jacking up the price through short-order increases in their max bid. e**h I am not sure. Either they are a shell bidder or the greater fool, a bidder unsure of their own valuation of the product or with extra money to burn who is encouraged by shell bidders like g**2.
Ebay takes advantage of people like e**h, as we can see here. Ebay is all about getting you to up your maximum bid and behave non-rationally, so you exceed your valuation. this is another reason why sniping software is helpful. It allows you to carefully consider your max bid and then makes it easier to not change it.
the worst I've seen was a 90s Paul derailleur jacked up to over 1000 by one shell bidder and one greater fool.
If we are taking bets on the outcome, i think it will go to someone completely new to the auction who has set snipes under several user names for an "insane" amount, because the worth of vintage bikes, like all collectables, is completely irrational. The winner will have money and "needs" this exact frame to complete their collection of chromed Masis, and thus the frame is worth way more to them than anyone else.

Thank you for the URL comments.
yeah, I shut down my eBay account before the pandemic. Much less spent. On a rare occasion I have my wife transact.
I assume that even cloaked bidding history requires an account log in now.
long gone are the days of known bidder identities. Ancient internet history I kept being outbid by the late J. Waner. He saved me a lot of money.
these do not show up very often. The bidding has escalated quickly. And sniping is the way to prevail often, it all happens in the last 5-6 seconds anyway.

Good example that the value of any old bike is what someone is willing to pay for it.

IME, last 1-3 seconds, maybe, if you're very lucky.

depending on the connection, 3 seconds to go is probably best.
On this auction it will be smile and wave.
‘just looked, shill or real, 1,601,00
irrational exuberance has played out for today, over 5 days left.
I do have a Pogliaghi track bike that I thought I lost the auction many years ago. The winning bidder backed out, a Mr. Denny at the last possible moment to do so, did.
nice bike. One I have not ridden.

this Special is a very desirable machine. I don't think they are making those any more
I will be surprised if it breaks $ 2K but we shall see. As somebody said above, it only takes one enthusiastic bidder and one greater fool.
I still believe this shows that the demand is there for the RIGHT vintage bike. Maybe just not for EVERY one

One bidder who has ONLY multiple bids with the same seller on different auctions and zero feedback. Shill bidding, and easy to spot on eBay. Very illegal and that seller should be banned from eBay indefinitely.

I have seen extreme prices on items , both high and low. Certain bikes or frames seem to draw more bidding but , as Mark said , just certain bikes. I DID get $740 for my Medici a few months back which I thought was low but good for the times, I guess. There are collectors with deep pockets for some bikes .

Yes , I have gotten some very good deals by just watching certain items that are poorly presented or , for whatever reason, don’t get any action. I bid on a Brooks Team Professional saddle that came with a 2 bolt Campagnolo 27.2 seat post . It ended at about $50 which I thought was an ok deal until I opened the box and saw the post with it. I guess I didn’t see that the listing included the post!
