Bianchi Specialissima Tretubi odd mix

I'm looking at a Bianchi and have not purchased it. He lives down the street and I've id some odd things about the bike but these odd things constantly have shown up here on BF.
The seller states its from the 1975 but a Piaggo sticker tells me maybe 1980-1985.

The left chain stay has a Specialissima with a design of 3 bikes in a race. I thought this was a Specialissima but then the top tube has a script of Campione D'Italia.
The tubing Is Tretube and the RD is Nuvo Record with Modolo brakes.
I'm thinking 1981 Campione D'Italia mid level bike with a nice sticker.

What the hell is it?

Modolo brakes might make it an ‘84. I don’t think the Specialissma sticker in that spot represents a model name but a series of bikes like the later Reparto Corse bikes.

A tretubi frameset would not have Specialissima decal. A 1975 model would not have a Piaggio decal or that style of a Columbus decal. It does sound like an early 1980s mid-range model but to be sure we'd need more information. Do you know the serial number and do you have more photos?

chainset and pedals appear OFMEGA so would expect hubs & headset from this producer as well

saddle pillar may be San Marco

I'll have more pictures soon, but you guys are correct. The seller thinks he bought it in 75 but upon further inspection is appears to be a later model.
looking at Bianchi girls post, I'm surprised the models were mostly Tretubi and only one SL model.
The seller is asking 1000 but that appears way over priced for a mid-level.

Cycologist cost savings. They get use the Columbus decal and most riders wouldn’t really notice the difference between a tretubi SL with Alle or Falck stays anyway.

Univega used to put this big Chromoly sticker on the downtube, and the rest of the frame was something else. They weren’t lying just using the rules to their benefit.

I have an 83 that I believe to be a Tipo Corsa with original paint that is Tre Tubi and has a Specialissima decal on the chainstay. My understanding is the Specialissima decal meant it was built in the upper end and custom shop that later was renamed Reparto Corse..

Cycologist Is there any chrome on the frame? Fork crown or seatstay caps?

82 Campione del mondo tretubi specialissima

I just purchased a Campione del mondo 12v tretubi frameset (still in route) a bit rough but with the specialissima on the chainstay.
I didn't quite expect to see specialissima on a tretubi frame either.

See post #2 Hopefully that will clean up nicely and be a great looking rider. How did you come up with '82? The decals look like the wrong style for '82

For what it's worth, I have a Campione d'Italia with a late 1981 Tre Tubi frame build date, presumably a 1982 model. (I am pretty sure about the date, because the neighbor who gave(!) it to me had the original mid-1982 receipt from Leucadia Cyclery. He said it was getting shopworn because most customers preferred Celeste, as he would have himself, but he couldn't pass up a $100 discount from list price for this color.) The only outlier is the charcoal paint color, which I see in some other years' catalogues, but not 1982. No trace of ever having had a Specialissima decal anywhere.

Original equipment: Ofmega 144mm BCD crankset geared 52-42, Modolo Speedy brakes, 36-spoke low-flange Ofmega hubset, Regina America 13-23 6-speed freewheel, Campag. NR derailleurs, Campag. road quill pedals, TTT bars and Bianchi-engraved stem. Bianchi decals are typical of ca. 1980.

Original equipment matched 1982 Campione d'Italia specs. Frame date is late 1981. "Charcoal" color not found in catalog listing.

Original Paint and decals on 82 Champione del Mondo frame. Fork not original, PO replaced fork after a crash, and continued to ride it, until advised otherwise by bike shop mech, who gave the frame to me.

... or is it G, as in 7th letter of the alphabet and 7th month? My objection to your interpretation is that two months start with G, and two start with M. https://www.rocketlanguages.com/ital...ths-in-italian

What do you make of my 1.M____ S/N? I figured it was Dec 1981 and that they probably skipped I in the sequence, so M=12th month. I suppose they might have used either thirteen 4-week business months, which would still put me in December, or fortnights, which would put me about midyear.

Agree with you regarding the decals, looks to be an 82-frame stamped 2 . G on the seat lug.

Leaves me only guessing at this point.
