Great race report, great effort and congratulations.

But I have a question. By "oxymoron" do you mean "redundant?"

@Racer Ex, somehow I did not have the mental construct that y'all had gotten off the bike. In each race. Oy.

Love it though, just think of the smashing y'all woulda managed without that part.

Congrats.

That story is one for the ages. Who woulda thunk it. Congrats on your achievement and especially the calm under fire. Most of us wouldn't have that.

If I could pick up a tandem (unlikely) I would've thrown it into the bushes after the third chain drop probably. That's an epic story.

I'd like to have seen a video of Ex telling Marvin to get off the bike. He's about twice Ex's size.

It's beyond words.

After some TT (maybe 1986 where Lemond crashed but lost only 25 seconds in a super long TT?) a commentator asked someone not Lemond if Lemond looked strong. The rider was like, "uh, he crashed and beat me by 10 minutes. What do you think?"
@Racer Ex next time drop me a note. I have a 55x44 set of 130 bcd tandem rings, a few extra front derailleurs, some other stuff.

Very well written. Bend was similar. Turn four was a hard right turn onto a narrow walkway. Two could get through side by side and three if they rode safely with no room for error. I could hear guys hitting the barriers behind me almost every lap until the field whittled down. USAC has a history of creating dangerous crit courses for Nats. The year befor I was there the sprint was about 400m and downhill.

Well, it looks like USAC pulled the Pro Road Nationals from Winston-Salem. I wonder if Masters is next?

2017 U.S. road nationals moved to Knoxville, Tennessee, with date change to late June | CyclingTips

no. the combo thing was a cluster. same dates, same location for masters. i'm kind of neutral about that.

From a friend close to the situation:

They (the promoters) decided after this past year that doing both Pro and Masters nats was too much, and that the Masters races were a better bet to bring more racers, families, etc to the city, so they decided to have Pro nats elsewhere.

The crit course for Masters next year will be the one used in the Pro crit this past season - downtown, and with bands and food trucks. Should be a blast.

USAC put out the Nationals calendar.

Masters Nats will be in Augusta, Ga on June 1-4. All nationals were moved from Winston-Salem.

I used to live in Augusta. Maybe I'll make the trip down there.

At first, I was kind of annoyed to see the change, but now I'm kind of pleased by it. I'm not a real contender in those races. I only did them last year because they were so close. And I got crushed in the road race and went down in the first crash in the crit. It was not a good race for me. Now that it's not local, I don't feel any pressure to do it.

And Augusta has some rollers. It depends if the race crosses the river into South Carolina. It's much more rolling there.
