Anyone tour or S24O in angeles crest forest?

Hey all...planning to get out LA for a little while and am hoping to do a 2 or 3 nighter around Angeles Crest forest. Perhaps starting in Tujunga and coming out in Azusa. Anyone do something similar? How is the camping out there?

I've always wanted to explore that area but never had a chance. Here's some interesting San Gabriel Mtn tours:

On-road:

Off-road:

I always thought this route would be interesting as an overnighter:

Start from the West Fork of the San Gabriel River (Hwy 39, above Azusa), then bike along the paved bike trail to Cogswell Dam. Follow the fire roads and eventually end up near Red Box (at Angeles Crest Hwy). Continue down Angeles Crest to La Canada/Tujunga.

First part of the route:

Fwiw, I would avoid the roadside campgrounds; it's just too close to L.A. and you sometimes get a rowdy crowd. The primitive sites--where you have to expend some energy to get to--are usually less crowded and peaceful.
