I finally made contact with the seller of the Motobecane posted here a day or so ago listed on the Milwaukee WI CL. It is a Grand Touring model, seat tube is 50cm center to top, SunTour derailleurs, needs cable housing or generous lube and flush and elbow grease. Original Weinman rims, 27". Rear derailleur has a bolt-on hanger. Tubing is 10something ( 1020 or 1030 ? ). Probably the original pedals and original brake pads. Purchased new around 1974-1975 by the seller's relative. Paint is marginal, could have a nice patina if cleaned and buffed carefully. Lower ends of the seat stays have good portions of paint chipped or rubbed off with surface rust on the exposed steel. It could probably use new spokes, good bit of surface rust (not flaking ) and the nipples may or may not turn if a buyer needs to adjust a spoke. Possibly French threads on the French made pedals, possibly. I don't know if the BB and cranks are Swiss, French, Stronglight, just that the seller said the bike sits as originally sold and has been hanging in a garage for 20 or so years with at least a season left sitting outside.

If someone really wants a Moto for theirself then it might be worth it, but needs too much for a flip in the Milwaukee market based on my experience. Someone more local to town might do better.

Hope this helps someone if they were considering it.

And for what it's worth, I've also recently passed on a 52cm Gitane with cottered cranks for similar reasons, even with a $6.00 price tag on the Gitane. Needs to much work for my market and not my size. Perhaps I've found a cure to the dreaded C&V N+1 virus.

Have a nice night everyone.

$500? Jeez-louise. I gotta raise my prices.

And since when did Campy start marking their brake calipers "Speedy Modolo"? The ad clearly state "full Campy set-up".

I have put one of my Le Chemineau touring bikes on Ebay as it is way too small for me and I need the money for something similar in my size. I hope it gets a good home.

Anyway this is a beautiful bike. Looks too small, definitely would turn some heads if I will show up at my local brevet ride
