I am kind of wondering what benefit a flywheel would have on what, for sake of efficiency, would already need to be an astoundly, boringly, uniform ride.
More even pedal circle?
I almost wonder if it's almost a "reminder" in that it keeps going if you even slightly hesitate, so you work to avoid being passed by your own bike.
Seems like it would be measurable on a stationary dynometer like rig with variable radius flywheel weights?
Or are there enough imperfections in even a good velodrome that it just grooves better?

Not as uniform as one might think. The center of mass drops in the turns due to the banking and rises entering the straights so there's an acceleration/deceleration twice every lap.

Assuming they were uniformly round is what I get for not watching a true velodrome event since 1984.
