Grail Bike on Sunday?
This morning I purchased, for the low low price of forty dollars, an early 1980's Stumpjumper.
Biplane fork, check, suntour thumbies, check, Suntour Mountech derailleurs, check. Shimano Cantilever brakes, check
Frame is a 17.5 or 18 depending on ctc or cttt it's chrome under the paint with Shimano SFR dropouts
And a very, very stuck seatpost.
All the date codes I check point to a middle 1983 date of manufacture
here's the serial

@Schweinhund
Those Tommaselli levers alone are worth several times what you paid and one of the most exotic parts used on early production MTB's, great score, well done.

I think much of the rest has been "upgraded" or those were put on after the fact. Many that came with them also came with T/A cranks and even Mafac cantis. Magura levers are seen as well.

Tried pulling. pushing, chemicals, a come along... Finally used a sawsall with a 12" metal blade to get the seat post that some asshat pounded in
Here it is recabled with a pair of X28 Saturne wheels from my '86 rockhopper and the 26.4 seatpost as well.

Gnarly, dude! The corrosion looks heinous.
Good job!
So was the old seatpost a size larger than what should have been?
Why was the old one pounded in?

If you look at the seat post clamp that's built into the frame and uses the seat stays, you can see where a (26.6?) seatpost had spread the lug and split the seat tube a little.
