What brake pads for 80's vintage Shimano Caliper style

I am not sure what brake pads to purchase. Bike frame limits size. Many listings do not show length of pad. I would prefer a pad that allows for toe-in. Brakes are Shimano BR-Z-570. Bike is Trek 400 Elance. When it comes to brake pads I do prefer quality over economy. And I almost always ride in dry weather. Also what is the purpase of the aluminum triangular tab showing below the brake pad?
Thanks in Advance!

Check here for choices and specs. The one piece shoes will be most likely to fit w/o mods but the cartridges will be easier to deal with in the future. I'd look for a used set of 105 DP brakes if it was my bike and I planned to ride it. Brakes are a safe bet to buy used, as opposed to something like shifters. IIRC, the tab was intended as a guide for wheel changes but don't know how effective it ever was.

KoolStop Salmon colored pads would be my recommendation for best stopping power and here's their website which should have something to fit your pad holders. They give the measurements of most of the pads. Also the triangular wings are to guide the wheel in place during installation. How useful they are is debatable. Kool Stop International - High Performance Bicycle Brake Pads Since 1977 Shop around for best prices.

I wouldn't use brake shoe holders without the guides. As for toe, I'd use an adjustable wrench to bend the caliper arms accordingly.

Would you mind describing why?

I find the guides quite useful; and that’s just how I’d toe the shoes. Assuming they needed to be toed.

In a racing situation where wheel changes need to be done as quickly as possible the guide tabs help positioning the wheel and prevent knocking a brake block out of the holder. Real possibility with tire pressures of 100 - 120 psi or higher.

You cannot argue with Kool Stop they are the some of the best pads and also consequently they still make pads for brakes that are long long long out of production and even some stuff that was never a high volume production.

Thanks to everyone who replied. I ordered two pair of Kool Stop Continental Salmon pads. They were one of the few I could find that listed the size of the unit. Many listed the size of the packaging, which is absolutely useless information to me.
