Wrestling With a Made in Germany Conti Top Contact II

I bit more difficult for me these days as I'm dealing with trigger thumb, which was probably caused by decades of tire removals and installations.

I installed the same tires on another set of rims in a jiffy...

Anyhow, I'm using a tire bead jack and I can not get this thing (28mm) on the rim (19mm ISD).

Of course the LBS will be able to help, but I'm thinking this is NOT GOOD if I get a flat on the road.

Should I return the tire?

Thx!

Thx, I'm not familiar. Since getting the bead tool, life's been good in tireland. Is there a video link?

strapping it entails putting a ratchet strap around the entire circumference of the tire. Tighten it as you work the bead over the rim.

So, I'll have to pack this ratchet strap with me everywhere I go? Is this demonstrated somewhere?

you can use rope, a belt, or similar as long as you are able to tighten it down enough to squish the tire down.

I didn't design the tire, your wheel, nor suggest you use the specific tire & wheel combo of your personal choice.

I got the tire on by using the bead jack incrementally with one part of the tire clamped using a vice grip. Now I'm dreading the possibility of flatting...

Overinflate it for a few days. It might stretch into a more usable shape.

Consider a thinner rim strip.

I'd return it if that's still an option. I have arthritis in my thumbs and have battled a Conti Contact before, I wouldn't be messing with one on the side of the road these days. You need tires you can live with.

Recent trigger thumb victim here- Even though it's the only reflex folding tire out there--You're right! I'm removing and returning. Thankfully used Amazon this time and EZ peazy returns!!!

......Yikes! I can't get this thing off!!!

True for most tires. But I rode an original Continental Contact for about 3X my usual tire life until... One day I wheeled the bike out for my commute and found it flat. After mucking about for quite some time, during which I broke a couple plastic tire levers, I grabbed a big ol' screwdriver and promptly punched a hole in the tube. At least I got the tire off and promptly replaced it with a new tire from a different manufacturer. (And a new tube.) I was late for work that day.

I would go with the thinnest rim strip you can find, you'll be no problems
