Would You Restore This Bike?
I've just started getting interested in C & V bikes and have been checking craigslist and saw this:

Not something I would be interested in, but wondering if something this far gone is even salvageable.
If it were a Colnago or something, could it even be restored in it's condition?

No. Too far gone at that price, if it was a gift I would probably still set it aside, not much to work with potentially.

Good lord, I've seen bikes in better condition pulled out of a river. Even if that was free, I don't think I'd touch it.

I would definitely take a look. I have worked on a few 1960's sears bikes made by Styria/Steyr/Puch and the quality of everything was pretty amazing. like, you know how almost every part of every component made by Campagnolo has their name on it? these are the same way, everything says Styria.
That said, the photos aren't loading for me, so I don't know what I'm talking about.

A Sears sold bike, made by Puch.....
Lots of surface rust, but there could be just enough finish left under all the iron oxide dust...
For maybe 30 bucks, it could be worth the effort, but not for flipping for a profit, just for a project to maybe get an interesting C&V commuter bike frame out of. You will certainly need to get a kiddie swimming pool to soak the whole thing in OA for some...rinse and repeat....
Forget about most of the Delrin based Simplex drivetrain components as they will most likely crack and splinter the moment you try to un-sieze,......lest try to shift a chain with them....

The price is way too stiff, but it is kind of a cool bike. (I, of course, admittedly have a soft spot for Austrian bikes. The ones from Graz are almost as good as the ones from Vienna.

Like was said before, even if it was free I wouldn't want to completely redo this bike from end to end. It looks like it has been outdoors since it was bought. I can honestly say that I have never seen a JC Higgins that wasn't a 45 pound balloon tire bike, though.,,,,BD

Here's one in better shape. Not mine. I downloaded from a google search.
The single speed I used to ride 8 miles into town to my friend's house, during the summer, and back the next day was certainly not such a "state of the art" ride though. It was a mid '50s model that I got for Christmas at about 6 or 7 years old. It was too big for me to ride until I was about 9. We always dreamed of having one of those 8 or 10 speeds that we saw in the Sears & Roebuck or Montgomery Ward catalog. Cutting those mean TX panhandle headwinds on those single speeds for 8 miles back then made us want better rides for sure.

Clear coat the rust, strip of all the parts (this is going to be a bear), drill out seat post and stem.
add new city bars and a nice leather saddle, plus a shiny drive train, fixed/SS wheelset with high flange hubs and classic low silver rims.
300$ money pit, at least, plus countless hours of frustration, but yes, this could be a cool project, if you have the time and the money.
