Forum stickies - need everyone's opinions.
I had a recent pm regarding stickies. The topic was that there are too many of them and that some are no longer useful. Rather than making a decision on the topic and actually having to be responsible for my actions I'm going to put it off on the rest of you, this way I don't have to be the bad guy.
Anyway, there are currently five stickies. Which ones do you all think should stay, and for how long. Should all of them stay?
Which road bike do you have thread
The For Trade thread
The Pedal Force thread - now unstickied.
Under $750 bike thread - now unstickied.
Sheldon Brown thread - Sticking around for a year.
I believe we can all agree that the Sheldon Brown thread is very important. Now with that said how long do you, the forum members, believe this thread should remain a stickie. Does a year sound good to you all or do you think that is too long or not long enough?
Thanks for your help in advance.

Personally I think we should keep:
- Sheldon Brown RIP
- What Road Bike do you Have
- For Trade

i jam my thumbs up and back into the tubes. this way i can point my fingers straight out in front to split the wind and attain an even more aero profile, and the usual fixed gear - zen - connectedness feeling through the drivetrain is multiplied ten fold because my thumbs become one with the tubing.

Nobody has posted in that thread since July. I say get rid of them all have have a "newbie questions" sticky thread. It might free up half the bandwidth.

Which road bike do you have thread - Stay - BF eye candy is always enjoyable
The For Trade thread - Stay - Useful for parts
The Pedal Force thread - Go - It's been over for a while
Under $750 bike thread - Revise - While this is a good thread for those new to cycling looking for an inexpensive ride, I don't know how many of the bikes in there are still under $750 because of all the price increases. Maybe it should be wiped clean and started anew.
Sheldon Brown thread - Go - Put a link for his website somewhere on BF

Move the For Trade thread to the Marketplace with the For Sale thread
Sheldon was a great guy, but that thread has been inactive for a long time.
Under $750 Road Bikes? Not anymore...
What do you have? People post pictures of their bikes 100 times a day in other threads. They have a list of their schwag in their signatures. Why do we need one more thread about it?
Pedal Force? What? Wasn't that a while ago?
I say they all go. Find some new topics to make sticky.

1)What road bike, keep.
2) For Trade, move to the Marketplace.
3) Pedal Force, has run its course de sticky.
4) $750. Revise and keep.
5) One year is a traditional period for mourning. So I think one year would be a respectful time to de tag it .

Would anyone like to volunteer to start a new under $800 bike thread? Would $800 be a good amount or should it be under $1,000? I feel that $1,000 still seems like a lot of money to most newbies and / or reasonable people.
Keep in mind, it is my understanding that pretty much all bikes are going to be going up 15% - 20% in the next year due to shipping costs.

I imagine that's true for most of us. However a major purpose of good stickies is to direct new people to helpful static content, and avoid so many repetitive threads. So even if you don't read them, you can benefit from them.

Which road bike do you have thread-keep it
The For Trade thread-marketplace
The Pedal Force thread-lose it
Under $750 bike thread-change th price or lose it. I do agree that $1000 is a lot for most newbies. Also there are enough "Help me buy a bike" threads that get posted all the time, so maybe the $750 thread isn't really helping anyone.
Sheldon Brown thread-lose it after a year. people still ask questions and people can still post his site for help

* What road bike
-> Keep. Provides an easy way to see pics of different bikes without posting a picture request.
* For Trade
-> Move to the Marketplace as its own forum, might make looking for something of interest easier.
* Pedal Force
-> Remove the sticky
* $750 Bike Thread
-> Definitely revise, the first post is from 2/07 making it relatively irrelevant. So a little clean-up and possibly bumping up to the $800 to $1000 bike thread due to the rumored price increases for 2009 models.
* Sheldon Brown Thread
-> Keep it for one year and then archive.

Keep Sheldon's sticky for a year -- there's newbies who need to know who he was and about his website (incredible educational info for newbies and nazis alike).
Ditch Pedal Force.

I would almost skip the fore trade thread as well. That really belongs in the Marketplace subforum but whatever.

Dump 'em all...
Restart the 'for trade' thread fresh...or back date it by a few pages.

I would keep Sheldon's thread for whatever you consider an appropriate period of time and then I would archive it. Keep the eye candy but I'd ditch the For Trade, Pedalforce, and Under $750 threads.

Okay, so far it seems unanimous about the Pedal Force thread so it is no longer stickied. I'm still listening to opinions about the rest. I really appreciate all of the feedback so far.
I think it's fair for Sheldon's thread to remain for a year.

Also, if you guys haven't experienced the unadulterated awesome that is Ffvb management plugin (firefox extension), give it a whirl. You can ignore/highlight key words, filter threads out by words, hide posters, hide threads (aka, stickies you don't care for), etc.
