now I want one.

It forces me to buy more headsets.

Can you post a photo of your PVC solution?
yes i can, but i won't bother. they aid in vertically aligning the HHP-3 press to the cups... they help keep it from going crooked during use. I also cut two discs of plastic from a 1 gallon milk jug to prevent finish damage to the Cups.. i found my HHP-3 on Craigslist for $25.. i had a home-made one before that find... it was cumbersome but did the job... it used 1/2" thread stock, nuts, washers, some automotive heater hose, and large body mount washers from some ancient front loader i diagnosed as Terminal. He asked if i wanted any parts.. i kept those 4 huge washers, the two massive batteries, and the hyd. control cluster. he didn't have to pay out cash, and the batteries went to the Ham Radio club as backup power for our signal repeater... they are now solar-charged, and standing by, but nearing the end of their lives too.

Try using the FLAT sides of the aluminum race installers, pressing on the rims of the cups, and some thread stock/nuts/washers... a ratcheting box end wrench will make a great driver ... or a good 2x4, skills, and a mallet. It works... if you're talented.

Or more frames. I keep the same headset and just change frames. The red Chris King from this Rock Hopper went to the Dean.

A different red King headset went from the Cannondale T800 to the Cannondale T1

And this mango King went from a Salsa Las Cruces to a Cannondale.

I use mine a whole lot as well as the RT-1 headset remover and my CRP-2 crown remover.

Cycommute, we certainly now know your favorite brand of headset! I think that the Chris Kings are pretty good.

Well of the 16 bikes I own (mine and my wife’s), 5 of them don’t have Kings. If those weren’t integrated headsets, they’d have Kings too.

Question - have any of you had good luck with the Chris King Grip Nut headsets? TiCycles installed one my avataar bike and it drove me nuts. Never stayed tight much longer than 400 miles. With my adjustment, the work of several very good mechanics and the Chris King factory (12 miles form home). I lived with it for 8000 miles and finally replaced it with a mix and match of Tange parts (to get the in between King stack). So much better!

By contrast, my threadless King is battling my Mooney's roller Stronglight for the endurance prize. It has no chance. The Mooney got a 30k head start and is back as a favorite ride but both those HSs are going to outlive me easily.

And not so serious but to the thread title -

School me on pressing headset cups

Sorry to have to break the news. You can press those headset cups until you are blue in the face and you biceps will never impress anybody.

You need to get an endorsement contract...

BTW, nice bikes. What's your favorite?

Depends on what I’m riding. The one I ride the most is the black Cannondale.
