Road Cycling “It is by riding a bicycle that you learn the contours of a country best, since you have to sweat up the hills and coast down them. Thus you remember them as they actually are, while in a motor car only a high hill impresses you, and you have no such accurate remembrance of country you have driven through as you gain by riding a bicycle.” -- Ernest Hemingway

700 x 28 on newer Lemond... will it fit?

Hey guys,
I've been looking into getting new tires and am wondering if a 700 x 28 will fit on my 2006 Lemond Chambery. I'm currently running 23's, but am planning to go with 25's or 28's next (if they'll fit) for comfort reasons on NYC's choppy streets. I seem to have decent clearance on the sides and top (not sure how much I need), but I'm mainly wondering if anyone else has tried this on a newer Lemond/Trek and which tires they went with.

I'd also appreciate your suggestions on a comfortable all around tire (either 25 or 28). I'm thinking about the Conti 4-Season or Gatorskins.

25s should fit but I dunno about 28s. I think they'd be tight.

^^^^ My thoughts exactly.
Edit to add: I recently saw a 700x26 somewhere. Might want to try to look it up. I feel like perhaps kenda made it?

You can try a Schwalbe Marathon Racer 30 cm. The actual tire diameter is closer to a 28. Its about as big a tire as you can mount on a Lemond. I'm very happy with mine.

Sure they'll fit, if you like the though of weird smells, bad drag and can guarantee you will be riding on indoor track all the time. Any crud on that build up at the apex of the fork there will just continue to build and it will happen almost instantly on paths, roads, sidewalks. At least where I live.

Do you actually have those mounted on a Lemond? If so, can I ask what year/model your frame is?

I like to stick with 25s even if 28s fit. They're easier to get past brake pads without deflation.

My favorite tires are Conti GP4000s in 25mm. They have good puncture resistance too.
