Rear axle/bearings tightness?

Rear axle/bearings tightness?
I just bought a 10 year old Schwinn Frontier that is cosmetically in really good shape. I adjusted the rubbing rear brakes, cleaned and lubed the derailleure, cahin, and freewheel, and sprayed a little lube into the crevice of the bearing. However, the rear wheel still turns sluggishly as if a brake pad is rubbing on the rim, which it isn't.
Any ideas on what to try next?

I expect the grease in the rear hub and/or freewheel is dried out and causing a lot of drag. If you are familiar with hubs, disassemble it and clean the cones, bearing balls and races thoroughly. Relube everything with light grease, reassemble and adjust the bearing clearance. If you are not sure how to do this, any bike shop can do the job.

I agree. Easy to tell if the wheel bearings are not turning easily - just remove the wheel from the bike and turn the axle with your hand. A bike co-op would be an ideal place to help you, but although your "Location" is cute it does not really tell us where you are.
