"Gary Fisher" to "Fisher"?

Just bought an 88 "Fisher" Montare. Looking for more info and found this 1988 catalog scan on Vintage-trek.com. Can't find anything about this re-brand around 1988.

Wiki states: "Fisher sold his company in 1991 to Taiwan's Anlen company, staying on as President." & "In 1992, Howie Cohen assisted Gary Fisher with his brand, brokering the acquisition of Fisher by Trek Bicycle Corporation."

Can't figure out what the handwritten part of this catalog scan is all about. Anyone have any info about this transition from "Gary Fisher" to "Fisher"?

Well, that IS news to me, but this was in the '88 catalog...Also, whoever penned the note mentioned something about bankruptcy leading to the sale of "Gary Fisher". On top of that, this is the brand moving away from "Gary Fisher" to "Fisher", not the other way around.

I had a Gary Fisher MTB frame that I bought in the mid-90s (from a Trek dealer). The brand name was definitely Gary Fisher, not just Fisher.

Right. I went over that in the original post. By that time, they were Gary Fisher branded Trek bikes. We know all about "Gary Fisher". We are looking for "Fisher".

Don't assume the note was written before the takeover so we don't muddle things up. Fisher (Mtn) bikes became Gary Fisher bikes.

Now that I read the warranty a little closer, it does mention info for a RockShox fork. First production mtb with a suspension fork was the1990 Mt. Tam. Interesting that this info is included in a catalog from 2 yrs prior. Looks like there could be a couple of pages from the '90 catalog mixed in with the '88 scans on vintage-trek.com. In that case, this all would make sense because the note might have been written after Anlen aquired the company(1991) and before the Trek era(1993).

Check it out:

So the name Fisher changed to Gary Fisher before the Trek takeover?

This suite sounds as stupid as when Palm Pilots first came out and Pilot Pen was afraid someone would walk into staples looking for an ink pen and get confused and buy a $500 Palm Pilot instead of a pen LOL

Ironic because the Fischer ski company (I had a pair) spells it differently.
