Road Cycling “It is by riding a bicycle that you learn the contours of a country best, since you have to sweat up the hills and coast down them. Thus you remember them as they actually are, while in a motor car only a high hill impresses you, and you have no such accurate remembrance of country you have driven through as you gain by riding a bicycle.” -- Ernest Hemingway

Im getting enough to cover both items, but i told her I would get one and give her the rest. With that being said, I let her buy what ever she wants. She doesn’t go over our budget but if she wants something I don’t say no. I am the one that is always told no……

I'm awake! As of about an hour ago. Maybe that coffee is doing me some good after all. I cut back to a single tumbler today.

Mine rarely, if ever, says “no.” But, it sometimes takes some work to get a “yes.”

I spend virtually nothing day to day, and buy something once every six months. My wife spends day to day on I don't know what. I make it a point to get permission for my purchases. She rarely says no. But sometimes gasps.

Same here. Since I had a mild case when it first showed up, I can barely think, talk, or walk, let alone leave the house for anything until I have as least two cups.

Drill and impact driver have arrived!

Yeah, the drill is pretty beastly. Will be fine for sporadic use for now, but when I'm doing a lot of cabinet hardware or similar, a something smaller might be real nice like.

Productive day. Got cat food and a new toy for the boy. Got wine. Got new wiper blades, which I’ll probably put on tomorrow. Did the NYT crossword pretty quickly. Napped. Prepped ingredients for wine-braised squid with vegetables.

My point is college is for fooling around, not getting serious. If you’re bringing somebody to meet the parents I think that’s a pretty serious step for a sophomore. How much of life have you experienced at the age of 20? College is for learning about life not getting settled down. I’m a strong advocate of NOT getting married early, despite the fact that it apparently works for some people.

Does that make me a bad person? No! It makes me one of a million reckless young idiots who shouldn’t be making life changing decisions at 20 years old.

But that’s just me.

31 for the trial marriage and 38 for the one that stuck. My biggest issue was the thought of never sleeping around again. The first one was "open" so that wasn't an issue, as much anyway.

But that’s just me.
We met Charlie early in their dating life when we went for campus visits. There was never any drama or interrogation. We never asked him what his intentions were. - we knew what those were back then - nobody needed to ask. We just hoped and prayed that we taught her how to make smart decisions.

Quite frankly, it wasn’t a big deal to meet him, and nobody took it as a sign of anything serious. We always included our kids friends in things we did. I’m sure he just saw the first meeting as a way to get a nice, free meal and free drinks that were a step up from PBR.

They didn’t become engaged until last August, three years after college. By then, they both had good, high paying jobs.

We have been lucky.

I did learn that their first make out session was at a bar called the Love Goat.

My first was open for her as I later learned. That was a problem.

The long and boring story of Mr and Mrs GeneJockey is all about the problem of finding The One, when you're both only 17. Mrs. GeneJockey's parents divorced when she was 10, which left her cynical for a long time. She had to date a whole lot of "Not-Dougs" before finally realizing that I was the standard she was comparing them all to, and why not go with the standard?

Me? She's always been my Kryptonite. I dated other women during our 10+ year hiatus, some fairly seriously, but I always knew, if she crooked her finger, she could have me, other considerations notwithstanding.
