Old and new chain skipping on 11T of 10 speed cassette
Hi,
I have always had an issue with my chain skipping on The 11T cog.
All other cogs were rock solid with not skipping or noise, all clean changes - rock solid.
I assumed that it was because it was 0.75 worn, so I've renewed the chain and its still the same.
I have also changed the 11T cog even though it was not worn - as it slipped, and it still gives the slipping.
On removing the chain and wheel and 'wrapping' the chain around the 11T cog it almost appears as it the chain links are too big as is wont 'cleanly' wrap around (with the links settling into the cog teeth).
I cant really work it out!!
I have attached images of the cassette, chain wheel and jockey wheels, I cant see much wear there.
Any thoughts really welcome.
Thanks for reading.

Is that the correct lock ring? It looks too big for an 11T cog and won't allow the chain to fully engage?

My first thought was also that you may somehow have a lockring for a 12t cog. Happened to me before when I naively swapped cassettes but kept the lockring and then sold the other cassette (11t lockring will work with 12t but not the other way around).

Pretty sure that your lockring isn't designed for an 11 tooth cog as the others have said

My first thought also, confirmed by your photo. No, I haven't run 11t but I've seen exactly your scenario running a 13t fix gear cog with a standard instead of 12 tooth lockring. And yup, your symptoms cross over.
Find the correct lockring. (It needs to be visibly smaller than the valley of the cog so the chain side plate does not ride up on it.) Or find a12t outer cog and rebuild the cassette around asmaller lower high gear. (And probably another larger cog, 16?, 18? lowest gear? to fill out the cassette.)

Thank you all so much, I never would have thought of that - let alone seen it
Although now that you've pointed it out - it's clearly the issue!
The lock ring says hg4000 and the cassette on it is an hg4600.
This forum is always delivers

Likely the bike originally had a >11T cog, but they failed to use the LR that came with the cassette.
I've made the same mistake back in my "more ignorant" days.

Seems like not long ago, but it was 6 or 7 years ago, I posted about the same problem, did not include a picture. It took about 10 minute to get a response from acjphil, which was the correct answer, lock ring. I've not missed many of his posts since that day.
