Road Cycling “It is by riding a bicycle that you learn the contours of a country best, since you have to sweat up the hills and coast down them. Thus you remember them as they actually are, while in a motor car only a high hill impresses you, and you have no such accurate remembrance of country you have driven through as you gain by riding a bicycle.” -- Ernest Hemingway

This may be one of the Masi wannabe's you are referring to. A friend gave it to me. Has some Campy hubs and calipers on it.

Masi & Orbea probably sell 1/1000th of new bikes in the USA. Masi's a tiny company in comparison to other brands, and Orbea simply doesn't have a dealer in most regions of the USA.

It's a shame in my opinion, because I think they both do a fine job on the road.

2012 Giant Defy 1.75
Ok, so it's a Defy 2 with a few changes.
This is the first new bike I have purchased in 37 years. I had a limited budget to work with. I test rode multiple bikes, Some comparably equipped, some pricier, but I kept coming back to this one. I just liked the way it felt. The bike got over all good reviews; dingers were seat, tires and brakes. Took the seat off my old roadie, bought better tires, and a set of Ultegra cartridge style brake pads. Also repacked the hub bearings with Phil wood grease, and tweaked the cones. They'll coast almost as long as my old Campy record hubs now. Another thing was to remove some of the excessive badging. I know these manufacturers are proud of their products but Geez louise. And lastly, what is it with the disdain over Tiagra? Before I decided on this bike, several folks told me to only think about bikes equipped with 105's or above. Well I could not afford that next step up. And, while I am certainly no expert on all the varied componants out their, I have to say this bike shifts flawlessly.
Oh, and before anyone says anything; I forgot to remove the dork disk when I repacked the bearings.

What model year is the R3? and if purchased as a complete bike, what gruppo did it come with?

Got my pedals, cages, and bottles. Still waiting for my shoes to come in and get my final fitting. So far it's pre-fitted from when I test road this 54cm. Will try to flip the stem down to see how my neck/shoulder cooperates... or it will be as is for a while.

I ended up getting the Blackburn cages, Clean Bottles, and 105 SPD-SL. Waiting for Specialized Expert Road in White.

Oh... and this is a 2012 Madone 5.2.

Some beautiful bikes on this thread!
Here's my Trek Domane 6.2 (2013 model) to add to the list. For those who are interested, it has Shimano Ultegra components and Bontrager RXL Carbon bottle cages with a Clean Bottle water bottle. This photo was taken from the top of Rokko-san (931 m or 3,056 ft): https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Rokko-san

Was shooting for a Domane as well, but damn handling isn't like the Madone. 4 Series was twitchy, 5 Series was still wobbly, and the 6 was too expensive. But one thing that Domane (5 and up) has advantage on is that it soaks up bumps like there's no tomorrow.
