Road Cycling “It is by riding a bicycle that you learn the contours of a country best, since you have to sweat up the hills and coast down them. Thus you remember them as they actually are, while in a motor car only a high hill impresses you, and you have no such accurate remembrance of country you have driven through as you gain by riding a bicycle.” -- Ernest Hemingway

Sure is. Goldfish, as hmai18 alluded to, Ottawa's got a pretty good atmosphere for cycling.

Keep an eye out for me. Not an OBC member but I'll likely join up next year.

I joined around this time during my first year and there's still plenty of good riding to be had with the club. They want you to go through a clinic on group riding before you join the Sunday rides, so if you haven't done it yet, you might want to do it now while they're still offered on a weekly basis. Once July hits, they'll only be offered at the start of each month. You can do the clinic and pay for your membership while you're there as well.

Sorry for the blurry pics. Took them without flash and the camera defaulted to a long exposure.

I'm new here so I figured I should show my ride... Is the frame worthy of the wheels?

I think they had one once, but that was long ago, and he's dead now.
Japan does not have much crime. Here in South Africa, you won't find a nice road bike without the rider on it. A lock is not going to stop any of our thiefs...

South Africa has a terrible reputation... I get the impression that if you stop at a traffic light, you'll get carjacked

A real road bike if there ever was one. I've had this bike for nearly 30 years...

Hi,

Very similar vintage to my Bianchi. Very nice. Do you ride it often?

Well your observation is correct, we don't have much "good bike" thieving here in Kyoto, but the odd crappy mama chari (traditional shopping bike) does somethimes go wondering by drunk salarymen.
An example is my giant sat on the footpath overnight (last night) with a 100 yen (maybe $1us) lock on it. That's with reasonable quick release bontrager wheels on it.
I will add though that with the US messenger influence here, people with fixies are buying frickin big "motor bike like" locks for them as they look "cool".
I did see one classic a few months ago, check it:
