mega clydesdale first bike recommendation
I am currently 360 pounds and losing. I've lost about 100 pounds so far.
I want to get a bike. I went to my local bike shop on Saturday. They are Trek and Specialized dealers so ideally I'd like to stick with one of those brands.
The owner of the shop recommended the Trek Verve. I've done a lot of research and it seems like a good fit. Any reason not to start with a Verve 2 or 3? (Verve 1 is ruled out because of no disc brakes).
I'll be riding on neighborhood/city concrete and paved roads/sidewalks. No trails, yet. Maybe that's in the future.

Based on your description of the kind of riding you will be doing, the Verve looks like a suitable choice. Enjoy the ride!

Nothing wrong with rim brakes...don't dismiss them out of hand.

I hear you. Sadly, it appears he already has. But ... allow me. We have rim brakes on two tandems. I weigh 200. DW is 150. Trailer load varies, 50 - 100. I've stopped all that with just the front brake. Consider also that there are Triplet and Quad bikes out there stopped by rim brakes. Defense rests.

I'm not the best internet sleuth, but it looks like the Verve line is aluminum and rated at 300lb max.
Meanwhile, I'm in your weight range and have been beating the crap out of a steel-framed Kona Sutra for the past 2 years. I did have to have a new rear wheel built, though if I wasn't touring on it and loading the rear of the bike with luggage, I'm sure it would have been fine.
YMMV. Good luck.
