it’s exactly the way I feel about this bike and the project.
great memories of my friend who sold it to me, the rides, and even the spring ritual tear downs and rebuilds in anticipation of the season.
if I could still ride this would be a keeper project. But I can’t and this is too fine a bike to make pretty and hang on the wall.
it needs to be ridden by someone who appreciates what this machine is.

You might research soaking it in a tub of oxalic acid solution, kill any rust. Also, if you powder coat they can media blast and save lots of sanding.

Did some more sanding yesterday afternoon, outside in the bright sunlight. Found a couple faint partial stamps "Columbus". Next time I'll take a pic or two. Fun little discovery.

Any thoughts on powder coat versus DIY effort with Spray.bike products?
Powder coating quotes around $150, spray.bike roller can DIY $55-70.
My concern about powder coating is decals don't stick well. Kinda like to put TREK decals on it, maybe the Columbus ones too

If the goal is to sell, just let the new owner decide. For a bike like this, someone may want to do a proper paint job, and would not want to again have to remove paint or powdercoat.
