Hello all. Gluing on some new tubulars. Was wondering if I should squirt some grease or oil in this oil port? I can’t recall ever doing so. I built this wheel in 1989. Probably has 5,000 miles on it. Still super smooth. Does zero oil or grease in it wear it out quicker? I wasn’t going to mess with it because it smooth, but just checking with y’all. Thank you,

would advise against oil
once it is put in it is going to be coming out the oil hole and the gap between the dustcaps and cones
when it does it will coat the surfaces around its exit point and quickly create goo as dirt particles stick to it
it also tends to dissolve/soften the grease
suggest to either repack with grease or leave alone
if hub has been untouched for thirty-five year it may be time...

Clean and repack the front and rear hub, the bottom bracket and the headset. Then you know everything will be good to ride. It's not too hard to do. Fidget spinner spin without grease but they cannot take any load. The grease may have dried up in your bearings and because the races are good, they spin nice. But once you put a load on it, it could damage the races. Be safe. Be patient. You have an excellent bike.
