Road Cycling “It is by riding a bicycle that you learn the contours of a country best, since you have to sweat up the hills and coast down them. Thus you remember them as they actually are, while in a motor car only a high hill impresses you, and you have no such accurate remembrance of country you have driven through as you gain by riding a bicycle.” -- Ernest Hemingway

Ritchey WCS Carbon road bars, From Taiwan. Fake?

Hey all,

I came across these handlebars on Ebay:

Ritchey WCS Logic Curve UD Road Carbon Handlebar Drop Bar 42cm C-C | eBay

The price, $89, for new carbon handlebars from Ritchey is too good to be true, list price is $200 I think.

Would these be fake? Would you trust it?

Thanks!

99.9% fake. You pretty much answered your own question there.

Based on what ?

They sell alot of other stuff that looks genuine so i think these bars would also be genuine. None of the other stuff listed looks to be clearly fake.

I would take a gamble on these being real.

I don't know... how do you tell real from fake?

Could I send in pictures to Ritchey and ask for their opinion? I don't want to ride handlebars that are potentially unsafe

All three are a no for me. I don't care how good of a deal you may think these are, they are more than likely fake.

They'd probably be able to tell you that the seller isn't an authorized dealer and leave it at that.

With photos, it's hard to tell counterfeit from genuine. These could be counterfeits or they could be gray market - it's a roll of the dice with sellers like this, which is why I prefer to stick to looking for deals from established vendors (I got some 3T Rotundo Team bars for ~$120 from PBK once upon a time, so it's not out of the realm of possibility); other have different tolerance.

Fake bars are usually crazy cheap like $30, and sold on sites like Aliexpress or DHgate. The stores tend to list other questionable and non related random items.

On Ebay it's harder to list fake stuff as it eventually gets flagged and if you get too many warnings the store will get closed down. Plus Ebay will almost always side with the buyer if a case is opened and counterfeit products are claimed.

If the bars are real, they should come with genuine packaging/tag that will have a serial code printed which Ritchey should be able to varify.

My genuine Ritchey Superlogic seatpost had a hollowgram sticker inside. So i would presume all their other carbon products like handlebars would too.

Although the counterfeiters could copy the hollowgram sticker. I doubt they do. But sure it's possible.

Certain brands get copied often, lots of 3T knock-offs from China for example

Typically knock offs are sold from China or Hong Kong.

Usually sellers from Taiwan are legit (lots of name brand bike parts build there)

I'd spend my money on these: https://www.ribblecycles.co.uk/ritch...ars/#pid=38231

~$130 with coupon from a trusted source.

Your Ritchey seatpost had a Cannondale sticker on it and you didn't find that suspect?

It's only $89. Buy them and find out. If they are fake you can open a claim with eBay and more than likely get your money back. I'd give it a gamble.
