Tricycle Suggestions

Hi All,

I currently have a MoonCool tricycle & am saving up to purchase another one!

While I like the trike, I am looking to upgrade.

Any suggestions on what to buy, what to look for etc.?

Thanks,
LC

The best bet for a trike is a recumbent, much safer and likely a better chance of finding higher quality stuff. IceTrikes, CatTrike, Terra Trike, HP VeloTechnik are all great options. They are going to be a lot more stable and easy to get support for them.

Nearly any recumbent you can buy would be safer and more comfortable than the MoonCool and its ilk. You haven't mentioned your budget, but they may all be out of your price range, too.

If you like the delta style (with two wheels in the rear) the cheapest you could get and have any confidence in the machine would be this:
https://www.sunseeker.bike/index.php.../eco-delta-sx/

If you'd like to try an inexpensive tadpole (with the two steering wheels in the front), I'd recommend spending a few hundred more to get this:
https://www.terratrike.com/leisure/maverick/

For starters, it's 18 pounds lighter and has a wider speed range, better braking, and better components overall.

There are plenty of better options if you have the money, and you might be able to find a good one second-hand at a bargain price. Of course, try before you buy in any case.

Thanks for the reply! I’m not really comfortable on recumbent bikes. They just feel odd to me.

My budget will be around $800-$1,000 for the new trike.

A Worksman would be a step up in quality but as others have said, you have to go 'bent to get a full featured cycle. Racing trikes were a thing for awhile (maybe still?) in UK and would be very cool if you could find one.

Here you go, then:

I'd definitely opt for the aluminum rims and rear fenders. I'd choose this over the lower-priced Eagle model because the wider tires will give a more comfortable ride.

This is off topic and of no use to the OP. But I just want to say there is something intriguing about the drop bar trike. The site I work at has dozens of neglected Workmans for people to get around campus. They are so bad I just opt to walk. I wonder if my manager would approve a request if I put it in.

Yeah I would then think about a proper bicycle. The more stuff you add to something like this either the price has to go way up or the quality goes way down you cannot just keep adding wheels and parts without either of those two opposing forces.

I would see if you can go out with some people who have them maybe rent one or borrow one and get a real feel. I love them in my limited riding they are quite neat and while I have no need or room for one now and really love two wheels I think they are a really great way to go and super comfortable a La-Z-Boy on wheels ; )

A 'bent as they call them can be a bit intimidating at first and I certainly had a similar reaction but once I got used to it it was pleasurable.
