Dave Moulton Fuso #2

12 years ago, I built up a Dave Moulton Fuso as part of building frenzy I had over several years up until about 2010. Some of you may remember me from this forum...I was a moderator for a short time on the road forum too.

Like many people, I was hit pretty hard in the economic downturn in 2008. I lost my job AND I went through a divorce...the combination of which forced me to liquidate pretty much everything in my bike stable. And I had a LOT of road bikes. Pinarello, Colnago, Waterford, Vetta, Tommasini, Giordana, Orbea, Daccordi...the list goes on. I also had a Dave Moulton Fuso and I determined in the end that of all the nice frames I'd ever owned, the Fuso was the one I liked the best.

Nowadays, I ride a Ti Seven and it has been my only bike for the last 6 years. I will never part with it because it is an amazing bike. But I never forgot that Fuso and 2 years ago, I bought a beater and set out to restore it. Today, I took my first ride and it is everything I dreamed of.

Some details:

1987 Dave Moulton Fuso #1385, 60 cm.
Full Dura Ace 8 speed group.
Chris King R45 hubs on H Plus Son Archetype rims.
Paint Restoration - Black Magic Paint - Portland Oregon

And of course - a photo. At some point, I'm sure I'll do some studio shots like I used to but for now, I just want to ride this baby.

Damn, its been a while since seeing you post, sorry that the economy hit you so hard, those are some tough things to have to take.

Glad that you seem to be doing somewhat better now. That is a really nice looking and fitted bike there, well done sir, very well done. And, welcome back to the forum its good to see you here.

...that's pretty. You should put it on the registry, I'm sure Mr Moulton would enjoy seeing it.

It's in the registry. Dave was instrumental in helping get the paint done. His blog posts outlining exactly how he painted these frames provided detail that allowed Black Magic to do it exactly as it was originally done.

Valve stems are too long, but otherwise....

Just kidding. That bike is beautiful. I would expect nothing less from you

Seat tube is 60 cm C-T. 59 C-C.
Top Tube is 57 C-C.

Being 6' with a 34" cycling inseam, I've always liked the frames with a shorter top tube.

Please do! We ride a lot from St. Johns out Marine Drive down to Blue Lake or Gresham or further out towards Multnomah Falls. We also do the west hills about 25% of the time.

Welcome back to C&V.
No one could forget your studio photography.
Didn't know you were in Portland.
I've got a 60cm Batavus with 56cm TT; it is fitted with a long stem.

The Fuso is beautiful, riding the best tires......

The silver tb14 rims go great with that drivetrain.
Nice build- and the full C bars are perfect looking.

Thank you. I gave a LOT of thought to the tb14's but chose the Archetypes in the end because I love the polished silver aero-ness. With the CK hubs, they come in just under 1800 grams w/o skewers.

Ha, yep those are archetypes. I even have a set of those and still misidentified them.

I haven't been on the 42 in years. They are usually so boring. Sorry I missed the pics. How did the paint turn out?
