Plymouth Touring - info?
Just came across a Plymouth Touring bike on Craigslist and tried to Google for further information... and came up with absolutely nothing! Possibly because Plymouth is the name of so many other things, but I am having a very hard time finding out anything about this bike/brand.
I can't post a photo or a link until I have 10 posts - but if you go to Craigslist for Long Island, NY, and search 'plymouth touring' you should be able to find it.
Anyone know anything about it?
Thanks!

Looks like a Japan or Taiwan clone of an English three-speed, most likely "Plymouth" was a house brand for a department store. Not uncommon back then for department stores to buy from a manufacturer and get custom labels and headbadges installed.
I'm guessing its likely a 1960's or 70's model given the three-piece crank and Shimano rear hub.
It's not a touring bike, despite the sticker, but an all-around uprightish bike. The size appears to be the wheel/tire size not the size of the bike. In Boston, it would be a great price for a three-speed in that condition. But if it doesn't fit, even a great price is too much...

Yeah, it's a department store bike. Early to mid 70s. My first bike was very similar. Probably cost around $50 new circa 1975. These Japanese made 3 speeds had a certain coolness to them. They were pretty heavy compared to the British equivalents, and the 3 speed hubs were less reliable. Still way better than the Huffy's and AMF's of the time, which I suppose is not saying much.
Tour in the context of the times meant touring around on a Sunday afternoon, not crossing the alps.
BTW, made in Japan, not Taiwan. Bikes weren't made in Taiwan then, at least not commonly.
