Sedis gold chain too much on the Krapf

Finally planning to finish this today or tomorrow. I have a new SRAM 870 chain I was planning on using. Then I remembered the gold Sedisport that was given to me with some other parts a couple of years ago. Threw in on temporarily to see how it looks. I like it with the skinwall tires, the yellow/gold stripes, and the gold button on the bottle cage. I've also got the cage mounted with gold bolts right now. Anyway, curious what others think, too much gold?

This bike has been a real challenge for me. Just one of those where nothing goes right. Went to finish it yesterday and for the life of me I couldn't find the bulk of cable liner I have that I use on my bottom brackets to protect the paint. As always happens I get mad when I misplace things which seems to be all the time lately. Finally found it and then couldn't find my bag of bulk ferrules and I needed one of my few remaining stepdown one for the RD cable stop braze on. Took forever to find that bag. It belongs in my cable housing bin with the above mentioned liner but was actually in my bin of brakes for some reason. Needless to say I just gave up on finishing it yesterday. The liner was hanging in the garage for some reason. Now I had used it on the Motta a few weeks ago and built that bike in the living room since it's winter and the garage is freezing. I have no idea how the liner got into the garage but that's the kind of stupid stuff I do now days. Like putting the mail in the fridge, All those head injuries over the years have really messed up the ol' brain. Anyway, I'm rambling. Gold chain or stick to silver?

Pretty sure I'm going for red bar tape on this as I have some that looks to be a good match to the paint. Housing is going to be white.

I would stick to the silver chain as it complements the chrome fork and seat stays.

As they say now "it's all good". Bright cheery bike -- gold is OK, black is OK. Keeping a gold chain gold might be the challenge if oiling (I'm a convert to wax but YMMV).

Silver looks better, gold would look better on a black bike

Gold works because it does and because the tires have a goldish tint.

After only a very few miles, all chains look black.

Your question is one about aesthetics - on that bike nothing is too much. It has a flashy paint job, chromed frame, you've added gold bits here and there.

To my eyes, in your pictures, I do not even notice that the chain is gold.

Do that which is most pleasing to you.

I like the gold, too. I’m also a big Bob Dylan fan, so take my opinion for what it’s worth.

James, if it makes you feel better, I lost my car keys. I had them when I went out to my car, but then I remembered I needed some thing in the basement. By the time I got back to my car, my keys were missing. The missing keys have the fob, though I do have a spare key. But the alarm goes off if I unlock the car without the fob. The keys went missing about three weeks ago, and now I just don’t lock my car anymore. when I was in college, someone broke into my car and stole my tape cases containing 30+ Dylan albums. I guess I never learned my lesson though you might say they did me a favor. Kind of like a Dylan song, I’m not really sure where I was going with this story…

I think you can go either way here. There's enough yellow/gold elsewhere on this bike that the gold chain doesn't clash or stand out much.

That's a fine piece of Krapf!
OT gold chain looks good on this one. Silver (chrome plated) would look nice too.

Furnace started acting up yesterday so no time to work on this. Seems like I'll never finish this one up.

That gold chain looks like a Sachs GT-7

That gold chain looks like a Sachs GT-7, it is a seven speed chain, best used with a seven speed freewheel or cassette. If that’s an eight speed set up, I’d use the silver chain, if it’s an eight speed chain.

OP said it was a NOS SedisSport chain, which is only reliable up to 7 speeds.
