This thread lacks sufficient digressions.
Who remembers "Tom Swifties"?
"I've been trying to remember the name of a band that was popular about 20 years ago that fused alternative rock, progressive rock, space rock, hard rock, art rock, electronic rock, progressive metal, indie rock, and pop," Tom said musingly.

Saw the "Farewell to Kings" tour .... Taylor Swift was Not in attendance.
Not saying that that was why it was a great experience .... who knows.
At the time I was an active musician and my ear was pretty well trained .... and there was way too much to listen to. Those three guys played a cubic ton of music. (See how I used scientific terms, there? Just a nod to the aliens .... why can't we all just get along, right?)

Edit: Steve Martin's 70s bits (especially Blue Spot) haven't aged that well either.

The fact that everyone has to talk about them is just getting old just like talking about former reality T.V. stars who got into politics it is just such a bore. It is like those people who post on the tweeters "I just ate a sandwich" "I took a shower" "I did laundry" as if the same boring mundane B.S. is interesting. Not saying you are instigating or anything just pointing out the generality these days.
Rush however is quite awesome and I wish somehow we could bring back Neal and Ged's voice and let them continue playing forever and ever. Or start a new band called Rush the Police with Alex, Ged, and Stewart and maybe bring Andy in as a backup guitar in the studio as his live prowess isn't quite as good especially these days. Would love to have Sting involved but there seems to be drama from him.

Where is GamblerGORD53 with his 'lol defailures are a joke, you need igh and drum brakes' schtick?
Anyways, I'll take his place here and argue that coaster brakes are the best! They are so good at stopping that I used to skid thru a few tires a year when I was 10-12. None of that trash 1 finger braking needed!
Hydraulic disc brakes are a distant second to the supreme braking of a coaster brake.**

Here yah go, proof of DeFAILeurs >>> LOL At 14:13 in the video. Plus he trashed his pedals and crank AND a hotel worker bent the HANGER in other videos. Grand poobah of clumsy this guy.

Oh man. It just so happens that I have an Opafiets from the 1980s Netherlands that has drum brakes and the Three-Speed Sturmey-Archer gears!
No lie. It's a Locomotief Populaire, and the drum brakes SUCK. Granted they're 30+ years old and heavy as lead and noisy as banshees. But they're still cool af IMO.
It's like pedaling a freight train, The bike weighs easily over 50 pounds, but I still love it dearly.
It's wobbly, it's cantankerous, and it's heavy as all get out (I used to suspect the frame tubes weren't hollow tubes, but solid steel rods), but it still reminds me of when I was a young virgin in the Army, pedaling around Brunssum, Heerlen and laughing my @$$ off at the leather-jacketed punk rockers rebelling on their grandpa bikes.

I still stand by my statement that Steve Martin's material hasn't aged well though. Even The Jerk isn't that funny anymore, (but Bernadette Peters was strikingly gorgeous in it.)

calamarichris , now I remember. You seemed to first take notice of me when I made reference to that gang of crows, mobbing a hawk down near the river, on my walk yesterday. IIRC, you referenced yourself as a sparrow, and wondered if I was supposed to be the hawk. No, that was never in my mind in making that observation. Only the fact that the crows were making a lot of noise, showing off for each other by flying at the hawk to score points, and that they seemed to be triggered by a sense of defending the neighborhood, rather than any threat posed currently by the hawk.
The hawk was just trying to move on to someplace quiet, probably so he could kill and eat supper.
Lots of noise, no real point to it, defending the neighborhood. No. I'm not the hawk. That's all I got for you.

In that case, I apologize. I've seen crows (smart little corvidae that they are) gang up on red tail hawks in my region. I see a murder in my sky every evening in fact. Where they go? I dunno, just somewhere north of my condo.
Where the red-tails go? I know about as much.
I wish you and Maelochs peace. And you and me too. Can you dig it?
I'm sorry if I said something offensive, and that I don't appreciate Steve Martin as much as you do.

...how exactly did you get involved in this exchange ? I forget now. Anyway, Maelochs and I go way back. He's been telling me how intellectually dishonest I am for years here. As near as I can tell, he only stopped because I made it clear I was going to report all such instances going forward. Because righteous moral indignation is one of Maelochs "nice things".
Am I clear on the idea that you're now blaming me for the lack of civility in cyberspace ? Is that what you're saying here ?
Ummmm....OK.
...I was doing fine, until you started in on poor ol' Steve Martin, who is not even here to defend himself. For a reference point, there are plenty of things from the 70's that haven't aged well.
