James that's a sweet Bob Jackson, I too am a Steelers fans so love the color. Very nice bike.

Here's mine which is currently for sale, however I'm having second thoughts and pondering some upright bars. It has massive clearance, I think some black Blumels would look nice as well.

^ That is a beaut!! And you are right, lots of clearance. Perfect candidate for some 28c or bigger for exploring the rough roads

Frame number 6832 so probably right around 1970, with updated components. A previous owner had it factory repainted and I assume some braze ons added, not sure what would have been original on the bike.
It has a long wheelbase by today's standards but is still very light and agile. One of my favourite bikes.

Am I overdoing it by reposting this here?


I just got back from a ride. I went out just after one thunderstorm had passed and another was on its way in. There was a rainbow across the entire valley with an escarpment of the Rocky Mountains as a backdrop.


I hit 34 mph on the downhill according to the radar trailer I passed on the way back home. It's posted as 40 mph zone. You know you're going fast when cars no longer overtake and pass you.

I know I am reviving an old thread but I am not really up for a solo build thread. Plus, I really like the fact that I can go to the Super Course thread and see a ton of them in one place so I figured I would share my new to me Bob Jackson here.

I saw this for sale on the iBob list and I thought it might fit a niche for me. My 85 Voyageur will take a 700X40 gravel tire but the top tube is quite tall and the prospect of coming down hard on it had me thinking about a slightly smaller frame with similar tire clearance. When I saw this Bob Jackson, I thought it might fill that niche and also satisfy my desire to have a higher end British bike. The owner said it would easily take a 38 and probably more. When he finally decided that he was ready to ship, he contacted me and I jumped at the chance. My current plan is to ride it for a while and see how I like it. It will be a bit of a parts bin build for the time being. If I decide it is a keeper, I may opt for 650b wheels and go for an even larger tire. I know that 42's would easily fit and possibly larger. I do wish the paint was in better shape because I really like this color.

Question-How do you determine what model a Bob Jackson is? My best guess is Super Tourist. I have seen a few of those online which had similar seat tube decals and similar lugs but I can't find anything that is definitive.

Update-I ordered a copy of the build card for this from Bob Jackson. It is a Super Tourist ordered in July of 81 by Bikecology in Mauve Rose. Interestingly the build card noted Campagnolo front dropouts but it has Suntour. That had me wondering if it was a replacement fork. I pulled the fork and the steerer is stamped with the same number as the frame. The rear dropouts are Campagnolo.

It's fun seeing these Bob Jacksons. My first big purchase from my first job out of high school in 1975 was a Bob Jackson, purchased new from Stone's in Alameda CA. It was red with white head tube and seat tube panels and chrome socks, with the block (non-slanted) letter graphics. I built it up with the a motley collection of catch-as-catch-can components that only a broke late teenager would assemble. I did a little (very) low grade racing, my first loaded tour, and my only Davis Double Century on it. I thought it was the most beautiful bike ever. In my mind's eye, it's still right up there.

Some a$$h01e stole it out of my garage c.1992. I still ticks me off when I think about it. But seeing these reminds me of good times on my old Bob Jackson and brings a smile to my face

It had hung in a garden shed for over 30 years since the previous owner, a racer had passed and his daughter was pleased to sell it to me. The paint was damaged with surface rust, so I sent the frame to Bob Jackson's in Leeds and they did a great job on restoring it for me. During the first lockdown here in the UK, my wife was ill and I worked only 10 days that year, so I spent my time on the hills beyond our house and on building some of the frames I had tucked away under the stairs for a rainy day. I had a complete 77 Super Record groupset and a pair of Fiamme Red Label wheels with Record High Flange hubs so it was a labor of love on the BJ and the finished bike was a dream. That summer, I also rebuilt a 78 Viner Special Professional, a 78 Alan Super Record, and when the money dwindled I sold them all to pay the rent. Building the bikes kept me sane and selling them on was a pleasurable experience too; one went to an old racer who wanted to get back on a vintage bike, one went to a young man who'd never experienced vintage steel and the BJ went to the wife of a serious collector who wanted to join her husband on rides. My wife made a good recovery, and this year, I haven't stopped working. I just bought a very grubby 1978 Bianchi Specialissima to work on when the current job ends. Under the dirt, the paint is good and it's sitting in my study waiting patiently for the rebuild and a ride on the hills.

Here's my 1971(?) that I picked up back in December. I'm planning on using this for Eroica so I've put a NR triple on it. I've since swapped out the NR RD for a Rally and put on a 32 tooth chainring.

I found this in a storage container out at Dominguez Hills California Velodrome around 1988. It apparently belonged to a German Sprint Champion back in the day. I outfitted it with my parts. Never rode it but only a few times in 20 yrs. Sold and an old friend owns it up in Canada now. I regret selling this one and will have another one soon. This bike was reportedly 1971
