My 1954 Sports 700c conversion and 1955 Lenton "Reg Harris Road Model"...
1972 Raleigh 20...
And there are more where those came from (but no pics uploaded yet)... have a matching 1974 R20, a 1977 R20, Raleigh Saffron, 1975 Sports, and a 1972 Raleigh Fireball.
Have also owned a 1948 Rudge, 1978 Superbe, and recently parted with my 1973 Gran Sport.

Was there was a Reg Harris model before 55?

Be aware that export models were sometimes delivered with older style graphics and even hardware specs were different. For instance the Canadian Lenton Sports models had AW's instead of FM 4 speeds. I'd be interested in seeing any documentation showing Raleighs from the mid 50's. I can't find any catalogues between 52 and 56 online except for the 54 Canadian edition on The Headbadge.

Here are my other two pre 1953 Lentons
As you can see the decals are different.
This should be helpful in identifying the age of yours:
ipernity: The Raleigh Lentons: 1948-1960 by Peter Kohler
But your quite right, maybe the export models are different..
Can I ask, what makes you think it is 55? The rear hub date? It could also be possible that the rear wheel is not the original?

Raleigh/Carlton Sirocco
Hi Guys!
I need to restore the frame of my Sirocco. (The Saddle tube to the bottom bracket welding got loose!) Checked the Serial number and it says WN2000002. So its built by Carlton in October of 1982? And the number 2? How many of these were built? Does anybody know if i have found something rare? Thanks!

An excuse to post my 1982 Raleigh back-of-the-catalog-frameset-only "531" with, you guessed it, full DB 531 tubing. Here she is with "full feature" (4 down, 9 up) Veloce with a Comp Triple crank and Racing T FD. 25.5" frameset that I snagged at this year's Seattle Bike Swap for a paltry $40. Clean, compound, wax, touch up = an incredibly gorgeous super dark blue metallic paint. A bit whippy, but such a wonderful ride!
And if anything, this picture is for future generations that come upon an old Raleigh frame with no name on it, just 531 decals everywhere. It is a real bike, a real model, not a Competition GS or a Carlton etc. It's just a bit obscure.

hi friend, you posted the Prince on The CABE - still a beauty.
This whole thread is gorgeous, and I'll throw up my old GP, which has been rebuilt 3 times since I bought it new in fall '76.
It left Cumberland Transit in Nashville with an Unicanitor saddle - still can't believe I rode those back then.
Moved to Austin and the splined SR crank stripped out on the climb home - luckily I was a block from home.
At the UT Co-op bike shop, the workers all raced, won parts and sold them cheap in the shop.
So the first rebuild in '78 centered around a Sugino Mighty Comp crankset and over the next year drifted to a Zeus/Rigida wheelset, Zeus shifters, narrower freewheel, and Shimano 600 RD
Here's the bike in that condition on the 90s saddle.
Lived in Austin 15 years, then San Antonio. Then moved to the hill country just north of San Antonio.
Next rebuild centered on a moustache cockpit because I couldn't reach the Maes bars and 120mm GB stem any more. Also went to half-steps on the crank, wide Ultra 6 freewheel, and still on the 27" wheels.
Shorty fenders are great for keeping center pull brakes clean. The bar-ends are still my Zeus levers on RBW (Ene) pods.
This setup was great for rolling hills, but torture trying to climb 400' to my house at the end of every ride.
On the RBW google group, a great wheelset came up, Phil freewheel hub, 126mm, on Synergy rims. New for a project bike that the guy sold to do something else.
Next rebuild, cold-set the rear triangles to 126, cyclotouriste triple with half-steps and granny, SKF bb, full Honjo fenders. The only original parts on the bike are headset (in great shape) and brake calipers.
Grand Prix is a great bike for front load - only GP and International came with low-trail forks - every other Raleigh bike boom model had racing forks.

Love my 76 Raleigh Sprite! As far as I know the bike is all original and seemed to have been collecting dust for years before I picked her up. One day I'll get my hands on my dad's Raleigh road bike (not sure what it is) which is just collecting sawdust in his garage. He has that and a Mercier from the 70s I'd love to restore.

A 1981 frame with brake cable clips due to a broken braze on, I think Raleigh switched from cable clips to braze on's in the late 70's.

Hey, can't somebody help him/her out. This is past my time at Raleigh, but I'll bet it wasn't a USA model.
It's not welded, the joints are brazed. You'll likely want to find a frame builder to do the repair. It has some resemblance to the Raleigh Pros of the early/mid 70's (I'm not suggesting it is an earlier Raleigh Pro.). Does it have a Reynolds tubing sticker? I see a sticker in the 'right' place, but it doesn't look like a Reynolds sticker... Are the dropouts Campagnolo? Do you have all the components? What brands?

You´ve seen right, it´s a Reynolds 501 Sticker. The dropouts are Gipiemme, the brakes are Weinmann Type 500 (stamped 2/82 thats why i guessed that the bike is from 1982 and not 1972 even if the serial number and the style could also be from 1972) The break levers are also Weinmann and the covers say "Carlton". The derailleurs are raleigh labelled Huret and the shift levers are Suntour. The Crankset only says Raleigh.
Hope this helps to identify it!

I'll go further out on a limb, since nobody else is helping! The bike was probably actually built at Raleigh in Nottingham as, I believe, Carlton was closed 1982.
