I couldn't agree more about needing the thread bumped. I read through when everybody was posting back in September and October and was inspired; seeing it all again has only renewed my goals.
The first picture is when I graduated from college back in May at about 235. The second picture was from about 15 minutes ago, weighing in at exactly 212. It's less of an "after" pic as a "here's how I've done so far" pic.

WOW! I've just read through this whole thread and I'm speechless. (If you knew me you'd know that's rare!) You are all an inspiration to me. Thank you for sharing your stories and pictures. I will think of them as I cycle and control my eating and know it will work!

You guys are all truly an inspiration!
I just picked up a couple of bikes (used) and am in the process of turning one of them into a singlespeed...it's an older Centurion LeMans that has been totally stripped and waiting for it's turn at the powdercoating shop. By the time it's done and rebuilt, the weather here in the Chicago area should be a bit warmer for me to get out and try my hand at cycling again. I have just started a low carb, low sodium diet and have started walking around my neighborhood in the evenings...until we hit the -35 degree temps.
The day I started the diet, I weighed in at about 290...my goal is 190-195. I've been lower before, and just didn't look right...I'll always need some meat on my to look healthy, just not as much as I am carrying around now.
Anyway, thanks for the inspiration...you should all be very proud of yourself!

Update from my post at the beginning of this thread....
I started riding in April of 2005. My weight was 255 and I had a 42in waist.
Now I weigh 166 with a 33inch waist. Funny thing is my BMI says I am still overweight. I don't think so....
Here is a pic from Christmas with my lovely supportive wife.
With the kids......Just a few years ago I never thought I would take my shirt off at the beach again

You look great Gary!
If you don't mind my asking how tall are you? At 166 pound you would need to be under 5'8" to be "overweight" by BMI calculations. A 33 inch waist is great, most things indicate that men should have a 36 inch or under from a health perspective.
Nice job!
Mike

This is me at about 240 at the end of last February:
This is me at about 210 in September (after riding to the top of Mt. Mitchell):
I don't have a current pic but I'm around 190-192 right now. BTW, I started at around 260 in Jan. 2006.

I am parachuting in here on the clyde forum but I think it is great what you guys have done. I have a hard time maintaining my 180 and would like to go lower but guess the willpower is not strong enough.. I should be below 170 give or take. The good news is i am not gaining... much. I will be glad when warmer weather gets back. keep up the good work

WOW, you guys are an inspiration. I want to drop 40 (gained 20 to 30) after I quit smoking 15 months ago. I don’t have a bike yet but I am pretty serious about trying this. I haven’t rode in 25 years and my wife thinks I will just end up buying a $300 coat hanger. I am in the process of trig to find info for the correct type of bike, etc etc. I was shocked at the prices. I am going to go to a few more LBS this coming weekend to get some more info.
I want a road bike and a trainer to use in the house till spring time comes.

I tried to post but page 6 fails to open.
Anyways I am at 245 and am planning on getting a bike here soon. I have been to 3 shops and continue to do my research on the links for info. BIkes have changed since I owned a FUJI back in 1982.
