I have a pair of Suarez bibs right now (and several pairs of shorts). I never really liked the bibs. Not sure if the chamois is too thick, but I just feel like "too much" is happening in that area.

Thoughts? Recommendations? I get a fairly substantial discount at one of my LBS. They are a trek dealer, so they carry mostly Bontrager apparel, but apparently they've had a lot of success with the Velocis series bibs this year. With my discount, the price is right too, and all Bontrager gear has a full 30 day satisfaction guarantee.

Obviously no shortage of options in Toronto, including MEC (which is like REI, generous return policy) but thought I'd get some thoughts & opinions on this. Obviously like a saddle, bibs / shorts are a very personal choice, but some guidance on where to start would be appreciated.

The problem might not be the chamois, but the shoulder straps. If they are too short, or you have a long torso, they will pull the crotch up. OUCH! Try a few different brands, PI fits me very well with no pulling, other brands make it hard to walk.

Give Louis Garneau a shot. I've had a pair for a while now and love them. About to buy the Pro Power 3's from Performance while they're running a sale. Just don't be afraid to go up a size or two if that's what fits. I jumped to an XXL and it's been a game-changer.

This is true. I have high end Castelli bibs and I still like my basic entry level assos more.

Don't generalize. I have two pair of craft... one has a thinnish chamois and the other feels like a big damn diaper.

Castelli, Giordana and Assos are my favorites but the Assos are the nicest overall in terms of comfort features like the straps.

But seriously... Everybody has their own taste in chamois pads. I like both thin ones and thick ones, depends on the day, how far I'm riding, the weather, which bike I'm riding, etcetera.

My favorite all arounder bibs are Rapha with the EIT/Cytech chamois, similar to the previous generation Assos chamois. I believe DeMarchi is under the same ownership as Cytech, so you can get their chamois without spending Assos/Rapha type money (tho they do make some bibs that are just as expensive). The DeMarchi bibs I have are Italian fit tho, not the larger American vanity sizing.

Until I find a brand and size I am satisfied with, I'd be hard pressed to purchase online.

I echo watching Competitive Cyclist, but I'd be watching for Giordana bibs. I got three pair of high end bibs at deep discount.

My favorites were the Assos Mille S5, but they stopped making them. Because of that, I recently tried the Pactimo Ascent Vector Pro bibs. I have to say they are very close to the Assos. They use the Cytech chamois. I'm really happy with them.

The only thing good about Castelli is that they have a one year warranty so you can return them when they come apart at the seam.

Thanks. That's where I bought my last Assos bibs. They ship fast, too. But I like the long leg version.

I like assos unos for normal rides but for long rides I go to giordana siilverline bibs

How are the Assos Mille S5 in the summer? I'm reading they are insulated for winter use? Perhaps I should look at a different model? I'm more focused on long term comfort rather than racing.

+ 1 with the Assos Mille S5 through the factory outlet. Really comfortable/cool on longer warm rides.

Nope, not insulated. I'd say the fabric weight is typical midweight summer fabric, not unusually light or heavy.

i dont have any issue with them and the heat.....honestly I like the uno's better then the Mille, they are slighly longer in the leg and cheaper by 50 bucks!

They do have the Mille long leg for the same price as the regular leg.

Which leg have people been purchasing? I don't think I'm a "long leg" person.

Also, they are OOS on the Uno in medium.

you'll be happy with them, its not like they are too short, I just prefer a the extra inch or 2 on the uno, still trying to figure how they justify and extra 50 bucks for them

why is Assos sizing based on height? I wear XS on other brands (due to 29" waist) and I'm 173cm tall so I should wear size M according to Assos, that's 2 size differences

Yeah.. the height thing in the sizing is a bit weird. The first review on CC's site for the neoProS7 has a guy who's 6'1" (but weighs 250lbs) who bought the TIR size. The next review a guy who is 6'2" bought the XL and he's 210lbs. A later review is 6'3" and bought a L. Hard to make any sense of the sizing. I hesitate to consider trying these bibs without trying on. Not sure why Assos doesn't give waist size guidance as well as height?
