Bikes and Cars: Is your car as high-end as your bike?

Road Cycling “It is by riding a bicycle that you learn the contours of a country best, since you have to sweat up the hills and coast down them. Thus you remember them as they actually are, while in a motor car only a high hill impresses you, and you have no such accurate remembrance of country you have driven through as you gain by riding a bicycle.” -- Ernest Hemingway

If I compare price per kilogram, then my bike is worth way more than my car.

As far as specs go, then they are both pretty even - mid range car and mid range bike.

The cars cost a hell of a lot more than the bikes but are "lower end".

Cars are a puny expenditure compared to homes. I thought cars were expensive, until I started looking at real estate prices in California for "starter homes".

You could buy a new $100,000 top-end Audi EVERY YEAR for 15 years and still be only halfway to the total mortgage payment on a "starter home" in the Bay Area Peninsula. Yikes!

I technically don't own a car (heck ya for being a trust-fund college student) but I do drive an '03 Honda CRV (which is rather bad off-road, too). My bike is an '09 Felt Z80. Both are low-grade although the Felt is more fun to ride!

In my household, the cars are really more of an afterthought. We'll be moving downtown in a few months anyway and plan on selling off both cars due to the unreal parking costs. Unfortunately, the Moots will also be going. 5 bikes between two people is a little much.

The bikes:

The cars (someone else's photos/cars via Google images, but identical):

I had an '87 model until I became car free upon selling it in '97. It was still running and looking great with 178k miles on it. I'd like to see some pics when you are done restoring it!

Bought a Bianchi Peregrine MTB when I sold the car - which I rebuilt in Jan. I also got a Bianchi 928 C2C Veloce group last summer.

I restored the 1800es myself, took a couple of years. Finding the parts was half the fun.

my truck is worth lots more than my bikes but the truck is prolly as
equally beat up as the bikes lol.

2007 GMC Sierra 1500 w/ 48,000miles
2002? Atherton road bike
2005 Specialized transition comp tri bike

so i guess my vehicle is "as high-end" as my bikes, since none of them can be considered high-end lol. but none of are really "low end" either, they all serve their purpose very well, even though they're not nearly the best looking machines on the road.

Sorry, no pics, but I have a Felt F3SL that is only 6 months old, and a 2000 Acura TL that is now 10 years old, so it is probably only worth a few hundred dollars more than the bike. However, I will be in the market for a new car in about 3 months, so then my car will be about as high end as the bike. I am going back and forth between a new TL with 6 speed manual and AWD and a couple years old 545 or maybe even M5 for about the same price, but now umd has scared me into thinking I should stay Japanese.
