This one popped up on my local craigslist. I have found very few interesting bikes in my area.
The Tange Prestige frame really rides nice!

Those with a chrome Ascent, where is your serial number? I have a similar frame but the serial number is not on the bottom bracket but is on the backside of the seat post down by the bottom bracket.

Slowly working on this one, a 1988 F1 DiamondBack. Not a true BMX nor a true roadbike, just something in between. Made by a couple companies to try and kickstart a variation to the regular BMX races.

No parts came with it so scraping for the bits. Yes, it has a saddle drop!

Found another stem in my bin to try. Brought the rise up to about 4” from the saddle. Might have one more to try then decide between them. Wheels will come from a geared 20” bike, maybe a Trek. Looking for aluminium rims. Should make for an interesting choice for bombing around town. It even matches my Chrome messenger bag, the party never ends!

Have to get ahold of some Shimano R650 brakes... the kicker is this is a nutted frame front and back. Before building up I will take detail pics of the frame for future searcher of info.

My chrome Ascent has the serial number on the down tube near the bottom bracket, on the front but quartered to drive side. If that makes any sense. The number is somewhat hard to read but I think is 7FE8932. Would be interested if anyone can give me the manufacture date. I've been guessing it's 85 or 86.

I've seen a chrome plated Ascent with the serial number on the back of the lower seat tube.

Please post photographs, including one of the serial number. TIA. There was also a chrome plate Ascent in 1987 and based on the posted S/N. that may be what you have.

yup thats a 1987 Ascent..

you can tell by the Ascent logo with the letters spreadout. the 1986 had a different font, you can reference the 1st page of this thread to the 1986 Ascent i used to own.

Thanks very much for the assistance with the year. I was guessing based on looking at some old Diamondback catalogs. I appreciate your help.

Based on research this evening, I have a 1986 DB Apex frame and fork set and a 1992-?? Ascent EX. One or the other to be built to accompany my other-purposeful bikes. I have no goal, at this time, with regards to either. I can't post pics yet, not enough posts per guideline note.

1986 DB Ascent sizing

Hi,

I Am currently looking at getting a 1986 ascent. According to the seller it’s size 18.5. Just wanted to confirm the top tube of this size (i am assuming that 18.5 is the seat tube).

I am 5’8 and not sure if its too big for me.

Thanks!

This was my daughters college and work commuter for a couple of years. I bought it for $10 and put new cables and brake pads on it. We added fenders, taller bars, and a rack that I had from other projects.

Just recently passed it along to another college student.

18.5 is the frame size from the center of the bottom bracket to the top of the top tube. here is a catalog for the 87's which would be close to the 86.
