Kelly Tires swap out?
Hi Guys,
I have a Columbia Twosome..... maybe..... 1968? vintage.
It has possibly original tires, with I think also an original tube in the back (schroeder, with metal valve stem).
I think it's time to get it some new tires finally, and maybe a tube too.
I only use it around Halloween, i have a medical grade skeleton on the back, that i've rigged up to pedal when i do.
anyhoo., are these tires one of those odd sizes? or can just swap in some standard sized (although vintage looking) 26" diam. sized tires?
they are 26x1.75
thank you in advance,
John

You need a 26x something around 1.5 to 2". Tons available at Walmart or Dicks. Get new tubes at the same time.

Walmart usually has 26 inch white-wall tires on the shelf. I'm not sure what the actual width is, but they fit a range from 1.5 to 2.25 inches.

Be careful, not all 26-inch tires/rims are not the same. Before purchasing something see if you can find an ISO/ETRTO size on the tire. What you'll find at Wally World is probably ISO 559 (think 26-inch mountain bike). Sheldon Brown's site has a page with a table of most sizes.

26 x any decimal size (as opposed to 26 x a fraction) will be a standard 559 mm "26 inch mountain bike size" tire, available pretty much anywhere bike tires are sold.

Need to follow the topic - my understating of Kelly tires is what was on my mother's DeSoto.
