Small Peugeot Bikes? (Childs bikes?)

We had an odd donation the other day at the coop. Two old small Peugeot bikes. One was sporting 24x 1 3/8 tires, and the other had 22 x 1 3/8. Apologize, I didn't snap pictures, (I will tonight.) They are adorable though. I couldn't find any decent information on them online. The smaller of the two even had fenders and a rack! Talk about a rare fender size!

Are these bikes rare or sought after by any chance? Your answers will let us know how to treat the bikes when fixing them. If... and only if we can find tires for them.

EDIT: Looks like 24 x 1 3/8 is easy enough to find, but 22 x 1 3/8 is harder.

French bikes in general are a pain to work on, I can't imagine mini french bikes being any better...

Don't know about value in your area, but the cuteness factor is high enough for me to buy one:

Yeah these ones are absolutely adorable. The tiny one is silver with chrome fenders. (And it's a 5 speed.. maybe 10 speed I forget). The bright orange one (24 x 1 3/8) is less cute (just looks like a small road bike but with something... off).

I find it weird that they seem to have the same geometry of actual road bikes. Stem shifters, normal drop bars, etc.

At the shop we all concluded they'd make GREAT wall hanging bikes. They're small enough not to take up much room, but they LOOK like a normal bike... just smaller.

I'll take some pictures later next to normal 700c road bikes.

EDIT: I can't seem to find ANY info for these suckers online. Interesting.

Yes, next to a full-size bike the cuteness is even more evident:

Is that your bike?

Is it a 22" tire or 24"? I can find the 24" throughout the peugeot catalogs, but I can find no mention of the 22".

They're a French size called 500A, which is 440mm. Not sure what inch size that is. If there even is an equivalent in inches.

I had a Flandria with the 500A wheels. Gave it to a friend of mine for his nephew but he decided to have fun on it. They are cute and even less trouble since there's less bike.
Flandria and Mark.JPG

And I found a Peugeot 24 at a junk shop in PA a couple of years ago. Did not buy it. It's probably still there. $40, if I remember correctly.
Peugeot Sports 24.jpg

They might be small but they are real bikes. I rode the Flandria a few times (usually parked it in front of the fireplace) and would not hesitate to ride the Peugeot.

French bikes are not that much trouble to work on. You need to deal with unusual seat tubes and steering tubes, but there are easy fixes for those. I have several French bikes and they can be superb if set up well.

I believe those are Peugeot G50 bikes. That was the junior ten speed in the 1970s and perhaps 1960s. I had one in 1971. Forty years later I discovered my old bike in my grandparents' basement, shipped it home, and restored it for my son. He rode his first century on that bike, at 13 years old.

My bike had 600A tires and rims, which are 541 mm. Replacements are hard to find, wheelchairs use that size and maybe some junior bikes in Europe still do, but I replaced the steel 600A rims with narrow 26" rims which fit okay. I don't know if the smaller junior bikes used 500A tires. Used an alloy junior BMX crank from Origin, Shimano 600 components, Mavic levers, etc. Great first ten speed for a kid.

There is a long running thread here, called junior road bikes or something like that. Lots of info there.

In 1982, at four years old, I got a Peugeot road bike. A very very small, silver one with chrome fenders. I expect it to be similar to yours. Can you show me photos of your bike?

Velo Classique in Purcellviile VA has several of those on hand, including a fully fendered one. Worth a visit online or a phone call to ask for photos.

Thanks.
I couldn't find a photo of the fendered one.
It seems that their site hasn't been updated for a while. But also on Facebook I couldn't find the same bike as mine.
My bike is still at my moms. I hope to have the chance to pick it up soon so I will have more info on it. Such as measurements and so.

24 x 1 3/8" = 600A 540/541mm (as on the blue Peugeot pictured above)
22 x 1 3/8" = 550A 490mm (as on the orange Peugeot pictured below)
20 x 1 3/8" = 500A 406mm (as on my little Flandria pictured above)

Many Peugeot bikes sporting 550A tires were folding bikes. The larger and smaller tires could be found on racing-style bikes. I repped for Peugeot in the late '80s when the bikes were in the process of becoming less "Frenchly weird" and these bikes were leaving the catalogs, as least for the U.S. market.

Harris Cyclery seems to have some of these tires and I suspect Velo Classique would also stock them or be able to get them.

There was a junior late 70s Guerciotti frame and fork listed near me for $100 or so. 46 cm and took 650a or c. If I didn't have too many bikes I would have picked up. Those small bikes are just neat looking.

My bike is smaller than the blue one. I think it's even smaller than the Flandria you showed.
I lived in France at the time and it was an anniversary edition because Peugeot existed 100 years. My parents thought it was a limited edition, not meant to be sold.
I'm so new here that I'm not allowed to place my photo of the bike. In a few post I can.

It's a real road bike, with gears, a double set of brake levers on the front, a bended steering tube but also with fenders and lights.

Kids love these little bikes: found a few pics of 2 I gave my grand daughters: a 24" wheel Univega mixte and a smaller, German made Baronia. When I researched the Baronia, all I found was a Police model they made in 1942/43, which must mean they were successful at one time. Both girls rode them until out grown. My son donated the Univega to Goodwill, Baronia donated to NW Hub co-op. Don

We eagerly await photos of the mini-Peugeot. If they actually made a diamond-frame, drop-bar derailleur bike with wheels smaller than 20" we'd all love to see it. I know they made 20" (500A) folders and bikes like my Flandria, and probably made 16" wheel bikes for the home market. I would not doubt any company's plan to produce some interesting variant to celebrate a milestone.

My neighbor, who has its own bike store, thinks it's a 20" judging on the photo. But I'm not sure though.
I haven't seen the bike in about 10-15 years in real life. I think the sadle doesn't even reach my knee. And I'm not that tall 😉 (172 cm, sorry I'm European).
I hope to have the chance to pick it up next month or so.

You mentioned model C32C in another thread but that does not Google well and I have not found it searching the catalogs. Can you tell us what year catalog or link the page? Home is the site I used and found a lot of little Peugeots but not the one you describe. Thanks!

You do realize the degree of desperation you instill in some of us, right? You can have a family member take a photo and email it to you, and you can relay to one of us to post for you if you do not have ten posts by that time. Just sayin'...it's not like this is really serious or anything.

I have a photo, and the catalogue, but being new here I'm not allowed to place photos and URL links yet. And I only get 5 posts a day...
The bike can be found on the bikeboompeugeot site in the 1982 French catalogue.

Neat little bike! You may be the first to have posted about one of these. 400A is a 16" tire size.
