Road Cycling “It is by riding a bicycle that you learn the contours of a country best, since you have to sweat up the hills and coast down them. Thus you remember them as they actually are, while in a motor car only a high hill impresses you, and you have no such accurate remembrance of country you have driven through as you gain by riding a bicycle.” -- Ernest Hemingway

The wind and wings thing is much more easily demonstrated with models. Into the wind of say 20 or 25 mph. I had a couple planes that would hover quite nicely relative to the ground.but if you turned them with the wind without throttling up they would become uncontrollable and succumb to gravity pretty quickly.its the air over the control surfaces that give it control authority and lift.
same reason a carrier turns into the wind when launching

I don't know the answers to these things other than what I've experienced sailing. For example, if I'm going dead down wind in a sailboat at 3 knots in a 3 knot wind, then I'm just getting pushed and the sails (foils) are not generating any lift.

Indicated airspeed is not the same as true airspeed. And that’s all I have to say about that.

My indicated bike speed is always different than actual, as well. Or is that assumed bike speed. I get confused.

That is what I thought would happen.

Are you a pilot also? Or do you fly RC planes?

Finally starting on our new roof tomorrow.

We got some interesting instructions:

1. Remove all art from the walls as the vibration from the work can cause it to fall off.

2. Have to park in the street (which makes some sense).

3. We have to allow the workers to use our bathroom (which is weird as a contract term, but of course we would). The issue will be do we have to leave our house unlocked if we are not there while they are working.

4. Cover stuff in the attic as the removal of shingles and nailing of the new shingles can result in a lot of dirt falling onto stuff.

Last night my computer said "warming tomorrow". But snow has been intensifying throughout the morning. Gotta get that snow while we can, I say.

Chiffon Margarine used to have a jingle, "If you think it's butter, but it's not - it's Chiffon!", which my family immediately made into "If you think it's butter, but it's snot"

Margarine itself is a bad joke. I can't believe we used to eat that carp. :yuck:

When Dad was young, they weren't allowed to color margarine - which looks like Crisco without it, so they sold it with a little vial of coloring to mix in.

I think I had margarine at a friend's house once. Mom and Dad wouldn't have let it in the house.

It's a good thing a passenger train wasn't going over that bridge when it happened.

Sorry, my bathrooms are off limits. I’ll get them a portapotty. Next thing you know they want to take naps in your bed.

I get lots of calls with people asking me to help them with contractor problems on their homes. My response is always that I do not handle residential or consumer issues.

Contractors working on my house or commercial property do not typically jack with me when they learn that one of my areas of expertise is construction law.
