Chain coming off when switching to higher gears

hi there so i am having an issue lately and honestly would like some insight as to what it could be, so i can figure out average costs of fix.

bike is a btwin triban100, so nothing fancy. has a 7 speed shimano gearing. this article explains better exact gears

lately while switchign to 6th and 7th gear the chain comes off pretty often, or it takes a bti before it finally gets into the gear. any ideas what it could be?

If this is a recent development on an old bike, I'd suspect a bent rear derailleur hanger. If it's a very slight bend, the problem may be corrected with careful adjustment of the high limit screw.

The hanger can be fixed and it's not difficult, but it requires an expensive shop tool. Adjustment requires some skill and knowledge and a bike stand helps a lot.

Try a spray of wd40 or similar to begin with. Where the outer cable ends are.
Start simple go from there.
