Vintage Mavic 550-RD "Pro" 100/130 mm & Campagnolo Rim Wheelset
Hi all,
What do you think it is worth?
I have a very nice and IMO extremely rare Mavic 550-RD "Pro" model hub-set with 130mm rear spacing and laced to 32-hole Campagnolo Omega silver clincher rims.
The 550-RD hubs were the top of line model with various enhancements over the 500/501s, and are distinguished by the exposed cartridge bearing on the drive side rear hub.
The rare feature is the 130 mm rear hub spacing to allow up to an 8-speed freewheel and use on later model frames.
Wheel spins true and the bearings are buttery smooth. There are some brake pad residue on the braking surfaces.

Construction on those hubs are pretty much identical to the earlier 500 hubs.
Only real difference is OLD for the rear hub, which is 130mm for thus one and 126mm for the previous model

Clearly the rear is for an 8 speed freewheel. There is a stigma related to 8speed freewheel configuration bending axles. I don't know but I think the larger axle of the Mabic may mitigate that risk.
IMHO, most people would not want to configure a bike with 8 speed freewheels. I wouldn't mind. So I would call this aspect a negative without good reason.
The other concern is the radial lacing on the front. Radial lacing can impact ride quality in a negative way. Secondarily, the flanges may not like the stress associated with radial lacing.
I would guess a value of about $150. for me an additional negative is clincher rims.
Hard to tell, but I think the rear uses double butted spokes (+) with the front using straight gauge (-).
