The only picture I saw was one of those really small CL pictures. Couldn't even tell it was a Paramount and the ad didn't say, it just said "old ten speed". I jotted down the number last night (it was too late to call) and called this morning, after I'd done my chores, expecting the guy to say it was a Ross or something. I'd have called sooner but my chores were sort of sitting on top of the scrap that I'd written the number on, so I didn't remember.
The old man said it was time to clean out the garage and let go of the Paramount he'd had made for him back in the early 60s. He then described it and said it was dusty and needed tires but it was a nice bike and he wouldn't take less than $100 for it.
I said I'd be right over.
Then his wife interrupts him and tells him there's another guy who called and he was on his way over.

Think Positive, Maybe the owner recieved 48 e-mails within 2 hours of posting and realized it was worth more than $100. So maybe tomorrow it will be re-listed at $200.

Wow, I had the same thing happen two years ago. Missed a 1950's Paramount for $100 by twenty minutes. The seller knew what he had, just wanted it gone. He needed room in his garage and was afraid it would scratch his Corvette!

I didn't actually buy it but I did use the underhanded tactic of contacting the seller and tell him it was easily worth $1000+ even with the dust, grime and flat tires. LOL

It happens. Move on. Another one will appear. It won't necessarily be a Paramount, or even something you're looking for, but it may be pretty nice. Heck, it may even be one of the custom built Rosses, since you just kinda slagged the Ross brand (only kinda, not too bad, but things work that way sometimes).

You too!! I've offered more than asking on two CL bikes knowing the seller under priced them badly. I recently paid more than asking for a set of Ksyrium wheels. I've never offered double, usually it's about 10-15% over asking.

A couple of years ago I managed to beat the masses to a $25 Raleigh Sprite that was too small for me. The thing was absolutely minty perfect and there were a half dozen Raleigh brand tubes in the fanny pack. I had every intention of flipping the thing but the guy who gave it to me was the nicest guy. He loved the bike, said he'd put thousands of miles on it (though it looked like it just came out of the store) and he was just too old to be riding any more. He'd told a dozen callers since I'd called that is was pending sale.
I felt kinda bad. I didn't really want it for me. 12 other people wanted it, too. I couldn't bring myself to flipping it so I kept it in the basement till I found a really good friend who wanted a bike and I gave it to her. I felt a lot better.
I've been a cold hearted flipper from time to time but I have a hard time getting upset when it comes to someone else's family heirlooms. Some guy got the bargain of his life and maybe he's gonna love and cherish it and pass it on to his kids.
Then again, it was my size and I wanted to love and cherish it and pass it on to my kids and if it shows up on the 'Bay for a stack of money I'll hunt that guy down and tear his heart out.
