Geomangear.com "contact us" doesn't list a phone number so that you can actually talk with someone. The "live support" button has always shown that they are not online.

I received an e-mail from geomangear.com asking why I had not completed my purchase. I explained that each time I put in the credit card information the transaction would not be completed and I was asked to fill in the information on "required fields." I did complete the information only to be asked to complete it again. So... I never did "checkout" and I never did receive confirmation of my purchase. However, I did get charged a few times on my credit card! I have been patient. Nothing back from geomangear.com (I get a much better response from dealextreme.) I've disputed the charges on the credit card, I've reported the incident to the better business bureau in Washington State (I'll get to New Mexico next), I've reported this to the Washington State Attorney General's office, and in my e-mail to geomangear.com I also indicated that I would comment on this experience in bikeforums.net.

Anyway, just one guy's experience with geomangear.com....
I just got done with a live chat session with Geoman. I think that it's just a matter of timing.

We can't be online all the time, I've had about 30 chats already today.

We answer chat emails very quickly.

Thanks for your understanding.

There was a network error that very well could have been our server but, just as fairly, it could have been InTheRain's. This has never happened before and I offered my sincerest apology. It is unfortunate and we've done everything to correct this situation. Again, we offer our sincere apology to InTheRain and hope this does not reflect poorly on the reputation we've strived so hard to achieve with the thousands of customers we've served since 1993.

Our mantra is to "astonish" our customers with our service. We try very hard.

Thank you for the soapbox.

Peace,

Yep... go ahead and blame the customer. However, I do have the original e-mail that was sent to me asking why I did not complete the purchase AND also stating that I was not charged. Your "guarded" apology is accepted. Nobody is perfect... but when you're not, you usually get called on it (I do.) The one thing that "astonished" me was the fact that there is no phone number for a customer to call when there is a problem- that is a red flag for me with every online merchant. Anyway, good luck geo... maybe I'll try again some other time.

Thank you, seems a fair response. We promise to try harder next time. Certainly, I was not blaming you but rather looking at the underlying issues on why your order was not posted to our system. The logs indicate a network issue.

We are a very small company intent on astonishing customer service. Frankly, the phone was detracting from our ability to fulfill orders and serve customers. As you can see, we spend a great deal of time online (like here) and elsewhere. The trouble with the phone is that it made us almost too accessible. Solicitors and purveyors were constantly consuming our customer service resources. Our lines were constantly busy - mostly by non-customers. Chat works very well. Email is excellent. We respond quickly to both and can sort out the customers from non-customers.

Anyway, I digress.

Thank you for the opportunity. We have taken your feedback very seriously.

No matter what is being said by 1 customer I have bought a few items from Geoman with no issues.. There are probably quite a few members who have also had the same good customer service..

As someone who ran a mail-order company back in the 90s, I really envy the ability to work totally online and to heck with the phone. It was my experience that when you get people on the phone, they sit there and yammer, make you listen for 10 minutes while they try to make up their minds, just want to talk, etc.

I used to come in at 4AM so that I could get some work done; between 4 and 8AM when the phone started ringing, I got more work done (fulfilling orders, managing inventory, etc) than I did in four 8 hour days when I had to answer the phone.

Can we please get back on track and talk more about the MS 900? I'd like to see some honest reviews and some photos of the light at work at night.

Ordered one, received it 3-4 days later. Use it for 40 minutes every weekday morning for the last 2.5 weeks. We ride (tandem) some fairly narrow roads with minimum street lights. On our morning loop we usually encounter 1 or more deer. The light covers the road from side to side very well, I am now seeing the deer about 10 seconds earlier than before. One morning we encountered a couple out for a walk, I asked them about the light and they told me they thought I was a car at first.

The light does what I expected it to do. It seems to be holding up fine. I ordered it from Geoman and they were very pleasant to deal with. If I had a problem, I might rather use a phone than email, but I understand his point... and I have not had a problem.

No photos, sorry.

I just finished the cold test. Unfortunately I was outside picking stuff in the garden when it shut off, but with the battery in the freezer at 10*F, the light was still running at 2:15, and had shut off by 2:45, so I'm putting the run time at 2:30.

I'd like to test it at more like -10*F since I do ride at those temps (and colder) but I don't want to run my freezer down that low. It'd take a day to cool everything down to those temps. I suppose I could go get some dry ice and a styrofoam cooler and engineer a -10*F setting, but it'd have to stay steady for 6+ hours to stabilize the battery at those temps and then run the test.

Wow! this is one awesome light! I can't wait to get mine. I would never had expected that it would have this affect on deer. The deer have never waited around for me to talk to them. And then... to have them talk back! Man, this is going to be so cool!

How does the beam on this Magicshine compare to lights like the LG L-Mini II Xtreme or the Romisen RC-N3? I'd expect it to be at least twice as bright, but I can't seem to find any good comparison beam shots.

I have a handful of p7's and the original LG Mini.. They are different lights completely.. The P7's give you a much broader beam.. A P7 on the bars and LG Mini on the helmet and good compliments to each other.. The mini has a little better throw and a tighter beam and the P7 will give you all the light you need up front, but comparatively, the p7 is around 3x brighter than the lg mini..

The new model mini also takes a better variety of 18650 cells, so that is a big plus.. If you want a little more light and a tighter beam you can get the turbo head for the mini..

I can do beam shots but I don't have much else to compare it against. I could do some shots with a given shutter speed/ISO/F-stop on my Canon SLR, if someone will point to what the "standards" are for those settings. I have the settings that I usually shoot at, but I just made them up myself. I did shoot the beam shot that's attached to my review to look sort of like what it "looks like" to me in real life.

SoCalRider,

Do you have the o.p. or smooth reflector in your LG Mini?

ItsJustMe,

If you don't mind, dare I ask where in Mi you are?

I have 2 of these monsters on order, can't wait to get them!

I had him switch the standard reflector for the orange peel.. I have the original mini which only worked with unprotected cells.. The new model works with both type of 18650 cells..

The small size and knurling on the light make for a great helmet light with no issues of losing it during a ride..

i just got mine and the LED on the charger was green as soon as i plugged it in even without the battery. I plugged into the just out of box battery and the charger was still green. is it suppose to be red before plugging into the battery? perhaps i need to run the battery down some to see the charger be red.

edit: after running the batteries down for a few mins the charger is red when plugged into the batteries. looks like everything is working properly! if only the low light mode is actually low i wouldnt have to always blind the bike ninjas and joggers in the dark.

Any observations regarding weather resistance of the unit? Not going to be submerging it obviously, but it will probably get some rain and snow abuse. Thanks!

If any of you talk to any deer, please tell them to quit eating all of the plants in my yard. It is getting very annoying.

Deer? What's a Deer?

Rode this past Sunday doing a Century in the Hills of Westchester County NY called the Golden Apple put on by the Westchester CC. Saw tons of beautiful deer, inless of course that's your garden they were eating up.
Many of these homes are on large plots of land and owned by very wealthy people. I mentioned to my fried that there was an odd looking deer all the way back near a persons home looking at us. He lifted his head and stood at full attention but still looked a bit odd. At that point the deer moved a little closer to us and that alone was very odd. Only then after careful inspection did the deer give off a WOOF from
it's GREAT DANE body. Luckily for us he decided to stay where he was versus coming over to give us a hug, or worse.
